Some 60 junior high school athletes competed in track and field events at this year's Tooele County School District Junior High School track meet May 20 at Grantsville High School.

Athletes from all five junior high schools: Grantsville, Clarke Johnsen, Dugway, Tooele and Wendover were invited to give their students an awesome opportunity to meet, mingle and compete against students their own age from all five junior high schools. Grantsville and Tooele High School track teams provided the judges and timers, with Grantsville providing the facility for this event.

"This event is for the kids on the track and for those in the stands. Both go away with a better understanding of what it takes to build school pride, school spirit and to cheer on their fellow students," said Keith Davis, principal of Grantsville Junior High.

He went on to say that the event would not have been possible without the hard work and support from Grantsville High School, coaches, and track team. "Two years in a row, they have been fantastic to work with," said Charlie Mohler, assistant principal at GJHS and this year's event coordinator.

Grantsville Junior High athletes have earned the right to display the District Traveling Trophy until May 2009 when again it will be up for grabs.
