Chism Wooley, Jessie Bissegger and Clausing teamed up with three RBIs a piece in the hitting barrage against the Cowboys, while Clausing pitched five strong innings allowing only one run on four hits.
"It was good to jump on them early and get the bats going," Tooele head coach Danny Medina said. "Meanwhile we had Zac (Clausing) pitching a great game."
After shutting down Grantsville in the top half, Tooele started their hitting parade in the bottom half of the first inning. With one run already in, Steven Witkowski hit a towering fly ball to right field that landed directly below the fence bouncing straight up in the air scoring Matt Gochis from second. Wooley smacked a hard liner to center field that drew Grantsville center fielder Forrest Stephensen in and then floated over his head, reaching the fence and knocking in two more runs to give Tooele a 4-0 run at the end of the first.
Looking to counter the scoring, Grantsville's Alex Childs led off the second with a single and made his way to third, but the Cowboys were unable to move him across the plate.
With the bases loaded in the second, Buffalo clean-up hitter Clausing came through with a hard-hit triple that reached the fence and cleared the bases. Unfortunately for Grantsville starter Austin Killpack the scoring didn't stop there as Bissegger was able to bloop a single just out of the infield knocking in another run and chasing Killpack from the game and giving Tooele a 9-0 lead.
The Tooele scoring continued as Cody Lopez hit a hard run-scoring grounder and then Matt Medina topped off the scoring with a sprayed double to left field scoring two more runs to mount a 12-0 lead.
"Even with a big lead we still wanted to execute the game plan while working in the younger players," said coach Medina.
With a 12-run lead Tooele did not take the foot of the throttle as Wooley knocked in his third RBI with a single to right to be followed by a hard-to-field grounder by Bissegger that scored two more runs. Lopez later knocked in Bissegger to cap off the Tooele scoring.
Trailing 16-0 entering the fourth Grantsville was looking to break the shutout. With two runners on, Childs was able to drive a long fly ball to center scoring Tyson Hutchins to give the Cowboys their first and only run, as Tooele's Clausing was able to close out the fourth and achieve a hitless fifth to end the game.
