Umpires needed

The Tooele County Babe Ruth League needs umpires for the upcoming season. Those interested should contact league president John Wright at 850-0504 for more information. An umpire clinic is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Tooele County Health Building at 151 North Main. Clinics will include the discussion of Official Baseball Rules, local League Rules and becoming certified. Anyone interested in umpiring for the 2008 season is encouraged to attend. Overlake golf

Brady Christensen fired a 34 last Tuesday to win the gross division of the Overlake men's league. He was followed by Curtis Sharp with a 38, John Herring 40 and Fred Killpack 40. Net winners were Truitt Jorgenson 31, Adam Dilley 34, Rod Thompson 35 and Mark Waid 35. The men's league at Overlake plays tonight with a scramble tournament on Saturday.

Oquirrh Ladies League

The Oquirrh Hills Monday Night Ladies Fun League has scheduled its first meeting, league registration and rules clinic for April 28 at 5:45 pm. The league fee is $10. There will be an additional fee of $10 for the rules clinic. League play starts May 5 with shotgun start scramble at 5:45 pm. All members and ladies interested in joining are invited to attend. Grantsville baseball

Logan defeated Grantsville 4-1 in Region 11 baseball Friday at Logan. The loss drops the Cowboys' record to 2-2 in region play with a home game scheduled for today against Ogden. Grantsville had four hits in the game with a double from Mark White. The Cowboys travel to Bear River on Thursday.

Tooele soccer

Tooele will play its Purple/White game Wednesday at 6 p.m. Tooele's Jason Faudre scored a first-half goal Thursday in the Buffs' 5-1 loss to Provo. The Buffs are 0-6-1 in Region 7 games this year.

Grantsville soccer

Grantsville battled Bear River to a 0-0 tie on Friday in Garland. The Bears edged Grantsville 4-3 earlier in the season. Grantsville hosts Ogden today and Logan on Friday. The Cowboys are 0-4-2 in region action.

Jazz game change

The start time for Wednesday's Utah Jazz-San Antonio game has been changed to 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on KJZZ and ESPN. The move was made to accommodate ESPN, who will now show New Orleans at Dallas prior to the Jazz-Spurs game. The Seattle-Golden State game will no longer be televised by ESPN.

Playoff tickets

The Utah Jazz has successfully advanced to the 2008 NBA Playoffs and tickets for home games one and two of round one go on sale Monday at 11 a.m. Jazz tickets can be purchased at www.utahjazz.com, www.ticketmaster.com, (801) 325-SEAT and at the EnergySolutions Arena box office. Tickets can also be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets during regular business hours. To purchase season tickets for next year, and lay claim to tickets for the remainder of the playoffs, call (801) 355-DUNK or buy new season tickets online at www.utahjazz.com. Season tickets start as low as $6.50 per game for 2008-09.

Softball clinic

Tooele County Thunder softball is holding its annual softball clinic for girls ages 6-12 on April 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Instruction will be given on hitting, fielding, base running and pitching. Space is limited so sign up now. The clinic will be held at the Tooele City swimming pool park. In case of inclement weather it will be held at the Dow James City Complex. The camp will include lunch, snacks, drinks and a T-Shirt. Cost is $35. Contact Nancy at 882-5530 or Patty at 882-2402 for more information.

Erda softball

The Erda softball league is accepting men and coed teams for the summer league. For information call Ty Judd, 840-4379.

County fishing

The Utah Division of Wildlife reported on Thursday open water at Settlement Canyon Reservoir with fair fishing success. Angler Charissa reports a considerable bit of Vernon is ice-covered and some anglers are fishing the open water with slow to fair success. Grantsville is open water with slow to fair success.

Karting

The second round of the Snap-on Stars of Karting will offer 10 lucky karters the opportunity to sample a form of motorsports that many of them hope will be in their future. Formula BMW Americas has arranged to allow 10 drivers that were born prior to December 31,1993 the opportunity to test the Formula BMW FB02 race car on April 25. The event will take place after the on-track racing activity has concluded for the karters and will take place on the 2.24 mile Eastern Circuit. In order to be eligible for inclusion for the test, the participants must register for the opportunity by this Friday. The 10 winning drivers will be notified on Monday. The event will include a late afternoon classroom session and seat fitting April 24.

Mountain Land Rehabilitation

Stansbury Clinic offers free injury assessments and treatments to all high school athletes on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. For more information call 882-4144.
