While most of the Region 7 teams include players in the 6-foot 7-inches and taller category, Mountain View's players are a bit shorter. Their lengthiest athletes are more in the 6-foot 5-inch range.
Mountain View is still a great team, according to Tooele coach Ray Brazier, similar to all the top teams in the region. The Bruins are 1-4 in region standings and 7-7 overall. They beat Payson and lost close games to Orem and Springville.
"They are a very good team as a unit. They don't have one big man they go to for all the scoring, but they have five guys who are good offensively," Brazier said.
Mountain View won at home against Payson by six points. Payson defeated Tooele by 18 on Tuesday at Payson.
Brazier was pleased with the way his team played defensely at Payson.
"Basically, they had a couple of 6-7 guys and one of those guys scored a bunch on us," Brazier said. Seth Lovell torched Tooele for 30 points with only one other Lion scoring in double figures.
Tooele started out strong defensively and led 11-6 after one quarter.
"After that first quarter they literally just jumped over us to shoot because of their height. Our kids were in good position defensively. They (Payson) were just hitting their shots," the coach said.
Payson led 29-23 at halftime and controlled the second half outscoring Tooele 36-25.
Tooele hit nine three-point shots with sophomore Taylor Hunt connecting on three of them. Boone Baird and Tanner Stuart hit two treys each with Matt Trussell and Derrick Anderson adding one three-pointer each.
Stuart scored 17 and Hunt scored nine.
"Mountain View won't be any less of a challenge for us than any of our other opponents," the coach said.
Brazier is extremely pleased with his team as they continue to battle each game.
"I knew this would be a challenging year and I'm extremely impressed with our kids' resiliency. These kids are ready to go to battle each game. There's no moping or pouting. It's fun to coach kids who have that type of attitude," Brazier said.
