Baseball team travels to St. George this

weekend to defend its Pizza Hut Classic title

Temperatures during the game stayed in the 30-degree zone Tuesday afternoon at Deseret Peak Complex, and Tooele High froze up in the seventh inning by allowing Olympus to score six runs to break open a tight game. Trailing 3-2 heading into the final inning, the Titans added the six runs to put the game out of reach for Tooele

Tooele used five pitchers in the contest as they rested up some throwing arms for four games scheduled this weekend in St. George.

Matt Gochis came on in the seventh to pitch for Tooele and plunked three Olympus batters. The Buffs also committed an error in the disastrous inning.

The Buffs seemed to have a control problem on the mound during the game hitting five Olympus batters.

Tooele's Zac Clausing pitched the first two innings for the Buffs and gave up one run on two hits plus a hit batsman.

Derick Anderson came on to pitch the third and fourth innings and his pitchers were closer to the strike zone. He only pitched four balls that were not strikes during his two-inning stint and allowed one run on two hits.

Matt Trussell pitched the fifth inning and allowed no runs, but hit a batter.

Chisolm Wooley came on in the sixth and allowed one run on three hits, but did not hit a batter.

Tooele tied the game at one run each in the third when Zach Christensen walked, advanced on a fielder's choice and came home on a single by Matt Medina.

After Olympus went up 2-1 in the fourth, Tooele evened the game again when Gochis opened the inning with a single. He later scored a run after a single by Clausing.

The Titans went back up by a run in the sixth to make it 3-2 and then Tooele's pitching unravelved in the seventh.

The Buffs will try to defend their title this weekend at the Pizza Hut Classic in St. George. They'll play Wasatch at 1 p.m. and Carbon at 7 p.m. Friday on Elk's Field. Tooele will play Dixie on Saturday a 1 p.m. and then play another game later in the day.

Teams in the tourney include Wasatch, Carbon, Dixie, Tooele, Grantsville, Bear River, Cedar City and Bishop Minogue, Nev.
