A man suspected of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl and propositioning another 7-year-old girl was arrested Saturday in Tooele.
According to the police report, John Westlake, 41, was arrested on suspicion of molesting his live-in girlfriend's daughter on four occasions. He had also reportedly offered a neighbor's daughter money for her to perform a sexual act. She refused and told her parents, who called the police.
Westlake was booked into the Tooele County Detention Center Saturday. He had his first court appearance this morning on five counts of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
According to the probable cause report, Westlake had lived with the 12-year-old girl and her mother for several months, and began abusing the girl on a fishing trip in August.
The alleged victim, who was interviewed at the Children's Justice Center, told investigators three more incidents took place away from their Tooele home, and in the basement of the home.
Westlake reportedly told the young girl that if she told anyone about the abuse he would kill her dog or himself.
In an unrelated case, another Tooele man had his first court appearance Tuesday on 10 counts of sex exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
According to the police report, Patrick Dodd, 22, was at work Saturday when his roommate called police after discovering a library of child pornography on Dodd's computer.
Police investigators arrested Dodd at his place of work in Draper. Dodd remains in custody at the Tooele County Detention Center.
The computer was sent to the state crime lab for analysis, which could take seven months to a year, according to Tooele Police Lt. Paul Wimmer.
