As unusual as this may sound, both Tooele and Grantsville football teams are each primed to complete two-game winning streaks in their upcoming games. It's possible for Grantsville, in fact, to go on a four-game win streak from here on in and finish as high as second in Region 11.
Tooele was without two key stars last week and should be back at full strength for a trip to Payson next Friday. Then the Buffaloes get Provo for homecoming on Oct. 5. Grantsville travels to Bear River Friday then back to Ogden on Oct. 5 to face off with Ben Lomond.
Tooele's final region game will be difficult when it travels to Orem. Grantsville's final two games are winnable hosting Ogden and Morgan.
Tooele's next two opponents are dead even and their games with Tooele should be close. The Payson Lions topped Provo last week 25-21. Payson is 2-3 overall and Provo, coached by former Grantsville High alumnus Clint Christiansen, is 1-5.
Grantsville's final four opponents are 4-20 overall. Grantsville, of course, is right in the pack with these teams with a 1-5 record so their final four contests should be competitive. Bear River and Morgan are always strong opponents. Five of six teams from Region 11 will go to the 3A playoffs so Grantsville should play at least one playoff game.
It's a bit more difficult for Tooele with four of six teams going to the playoffs in the Buffs' new region. Tooele's close loses to Mountain View and Springville hurt its chances for a playoff spot, but if the Buffs can gain momentum they may sneak in at the fourth spot.
On the bright side
Grantsville volleyball continues to roll with a three-game sweep of Logan on Thursday and Gransville's girls tennis team upended Ogden on Thursday, a team which was undefeated in region action. Tooele girls tennis team is also playing strong against some top foes in its new 4A region. Both Grantsville and Tooele tennis teams compete in region tournaments this week and both should qualify several players for the state tournaments.
