School has only been out for two weeks and camps for athletes in a variety of sports are starting up.
The Tooele Valley Tennis Club held a camp for junior high players June 4-5 and the Tooele High School volleyball camp will be girls in eighth through 12th grade held on June 23-26.
This week is the Junior Buff Basketball Camp at Tooele High School which is put together by Tooele head coach Ray Brazier.
After the second session of fifth through eighth graders had finished up with their first day of the camp on Monday, they got together in a huddle and yelled, "Team!"
The 2008-09 season will be Brazier second with the Buffaloes and although this camp is for kids in first through eighth grades, he hopes it will instill a passion for the game of basketball.
"This is for the kids and the kids to learn and have confidence," Brazier said.
Brazier fell in love with basketball during a camp he went to in Oklahoma.
"That's where I became interested in sports," he said.
Although Brazier is a varsity basketball coach he's having fun teaching kids at all playing levels and ages.
"It's fun," he said. "My staff all likes to coach. It's fun being around little kids. It's so new to them and they have a different energy."
Braizer isn't scouting for players at the eighth grade level, he's just helping get kids excited about basketball. Additionally, he's trying to help improve their game during the months when they could lose their touch.
"A basketball player always needs to be improving," Brazier said. "High school is so competitive. To play basketball you always have to be on top of the game."
Later in the summer Brazier will be having a ninth grade basketball camp and the high school team will be playing in a variety of tournaments.
Check the sports wrap section to find more information on camps throughout the summer.
