The Transcript-Bulletin took home 10 awards at the Utah Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest Saturday in St. George. The awards were given during the UPA's annual winter convention.

On the editorial side, the Transcript-Bulletin won a first-place award in the "Best Breaking News" category for former staff writer Suzanne Ashe's story on a tragic car fire in Skull Valley that claimed the lives of a father and his two children. Ashe also received a third-place award for her three-part coverage of the Raechale Elton case in the "Best News or Feature Series" category.

Staff writer Jamie Belnap took home a second-place award for "Best Feature Story" for her piece about a Grantsville man's unique hobby of dog mushing. Photographer Troy Boman won a third-place award in the "Best News Photograph" category for his photo of an emotional Leslie Baird after she was sentenced to a mental evaluation for having sex with a Tooele High School student. And Sports editor Mark Watson garnered a third-place award for "Best Sports Column" for his column on BYU football.

In the "Best Front Page" category, Abby Palmer's layout featuring photos and stories of the Kimbell fire last summer in the Stansbury Mountains garnered a first-place prize.

On the advertising side, the Transcript-Bulletin received four awards for "Best R.O.P. Ad Campaign," "Best Use of Ad Color," "Best Classifieds" and "Best Circulation Promotion."
