Two cars collided just before noon Saturday on SR-36 sending three injured people to the hospital and shutting down one lane of the state road for about an hour and a half.
The accident occurred at 11:50 a.m. just south of the SR-138 intersection.
According to Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Randy Riches, the driver of a red Ford Taurus traveling in the far left northbound lane was cut off when a truck pulled into the lane in front of her. She made a hard left turn, spinning the car sideways. Then the Taurus was struck by a white Honda CRX.
The driver of the truck, whose name was not released, stopped, turned around and "did everything he could to help the injured parties," Riches said.
The driver of the Taurus, Elva Roberts, 58, suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mountain West Medical Center. Her daughter, Debra Roberts, 31, who suffered from injuries to her arms, legs and back, was airlifted to University Hospital.
Both women are from Tooele. Elva Roberts is the director and supervisor of food service for the Tooele County School District. Last May, she received the Outstanding Employee of the Year Award for food service from the Utah School Employees Association.
Roberts, who does not recall the details of the accident, said that she was bruised but doing fine. Her daughter was just released from the hospital and doing fine.
"We were all amazed that she did not have any broken bones," Elva Roberts said of her daughter.
The driver of the white CRX, Jose Medellin, 31, of Salt Lake, was also taken by helicopter to University Hospital. He suffered from injuries to his neck and chest. He also suffered a broken leg.
