A 19-year-old Tooele man was sentenced Tuesday to six years to life in the Utah State Penitentiary for the rape of a 13-year-old girl.
Juan Angel Granados pleaded guilty July 31 for the June 8 rape of a girl he met at the former Buddy's Family Entertainment Bowling (now All-Star Lanes) in Tooele.
According to the police report, the pair met in the bowling alley that evening. The girl told police she was there with friends. She had originally reported that Granados forced her outside of the building, but investigators later learned that the two were acquainted. The report didn't say how victim knew Granados.
Police responded to a call placed by the victim's parents at about 11 p.m. that night. Granados was identified from the bowling alley's surveillance tapes. The tape showed the pair in the building and exiting the building together. The rape took place in the field behind the bowling alley.
Granados was originally charged with child kidnapping, a first-degree felony, and sodomy of a child, also a first-degree felony. Both charges were dropped, however. Granados pleaded guilty to the first-degree felony charge of rape of a child, which carries a mandatory sentence of six years to life.
The victim's mother read a statement at the sentencing describing the sadness she felt at the loss of her daughter's innocence.
