CRAZE summer adventures

Tooele City and Tooele 4H invite children 6 and older to participate in the CRAZE Summer Adventures this summer. Arts in the Park

The Tooele City Arts Council invites children of all ages (children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult) to participate in Arts in the Park. Arts in the Park will be held on Thursdays in the morning and afternoons. The cost will be $2-5 depending on project. Junior Golf Clinics

Oquirrh Hills Golf Course will be offering two sessions of Junior Golf Clinics this summer. The first session will be held June 7-11. Youth ages 8-17 can register for the program. The cost is $45 per session, or $80 for both sessions. The cost does include a junior golf shirt. Participants will be introduced to the game of a lifetime. A primary goal is for the student to be exposed to some of the positive values that golfing can provide. Everything the student needs will be provided. Junior Golf League

Oquirrh Hills Golf Course will be sponsoring The Hills Junior Golf League once again this year. Youth ages 8-17 are invited to golf on Tuesday mornings beginning June 15. Tee times will range approximately from 9:30-10:45 a.m. There is a $25 registration fee (includes golf shirt) and $5 weekly fee to golf. Participants will golf nine holes of play on a weekly league, and an 18 holes of play for the League Championship. Car show

On Friday, July 2, Tooele City is having a Corvette show at the Tooele City Park. On Saturday, July 3, there will be a show for all other cars like muscles, classic, antiques (new and old). Stockton Days

Stockton Days will be held Aug. 28 when the festivities will begin with an early breakfast, a fundraiser sponsored by the Stockton Fire Dept. The family carnival begins at 10 a.m. with games, contests, food and fun throughout the day. The Little Mr. and Miss Stockton Pageant will begin at 1 p.m. The Dutch oven cook-off, sanctioned by IDOS, has been cooking all day and will be ready to judge at 2 p.m. Followed by the traditional bingo game, raffle drawing, and potluck dinner in the evening. The Stockton Days festivities will wrap up with a karaoke contest, and youth dance and dance contest with Ron Baum and Dead End Alley Entertainment. Now taking registrations for vendor booths, $30. Make waves

“Make Waves @ Your Library — Read!” is the theme this summer at the Tooele County Bookmobile Library. Children will explore the world of water and water fun through stories, songs, games and other activities about oceans, rivers, lakes, and pools and the creatures that live there. The 2010 Summer Reading Program is open to children of all ages and abilities with programs in the Grantsville City Hall on Thursdays at 4 p.m. beginning June 10. TJHS

Tooele Junior High School summer office hours 7 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday. Closed on Fridays. Office will be closed July 5 and July 22-29. Students who have not yet registered for the 2010-2011 school year, you can fill out a registration packet June 7-24 please bring birth certificate and immunization records. August registration dates TBA.

Preschool programs

Tooele County School District preschools (for children 3-5 years old) are held at the Early Learning Center in Tooele, GHS and SPES. Developmental preschool, a program for children with developmental delays. Concerns: monthly clinics are offered at no cost to you. Tuition preschool, a program for typically developing children. Summer camp

SHS summer school

Stansbury High School is offering Summer School sessions to remediate classes or attendance. These sessions will be held Monday through Thursday, starting June 7-22, with two sessions daily: 8-11 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Any 8th–12th grade student has an opportunity to make up classes he/she has failed, raise their D+, D, or D- grades by taking a class & getting a higher grade, or clear up to 24 absences toward NG’s they may have. Students will need to register at their school’s finance office (or SHS’s finance office) by June 1. The cost for summer school is $30 per session (.25 credits or 24 absences).

Summer food service

The Tooele County School District announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program. Free meals will be made available to all children through age 18 starting June 14 and will run until Aug. 13, except July 5. Breakfast will be served from 8-9 a.m. and lunch from 12-1 p.m. Locations will be at Harris Elementary, 251 North 1st Street, Tooele; Northlake Elementary, 268 N. Coleman St., Tooele; and Wendover High School, 110 Wildcat Blvd., Wendover. Meals will also be available to adults — lunch is $2.85 and breakfast $1.45. Adults are not permitted to eat off children’s trays.

English as a Second Language

Tooele Applied Technology College is sponsoring monthly mini-lessons at their main campus, I.T. room located at 66 W. Vine Street (the former school board office). June 16 is about useful, free or inexpensive software — put your computer to work for you. July 21 class is PC tune-up and maintenance. Monthly cupcake decorating class

Join USU Extension on June 23 to learn how to decorate flower cupcakes. These classes are for both youth and adults. Youth must have finished the third grade. Each class is taught twice that day: noon–1:30 p.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per participant. You will take home several cupcakes and a few “extras” so you can decorate at home too. Truth project

Tim and Sandy Hewitt, founders of the Barnabas Ministry, will be at Cornerstone Baptist Church during June and the first two weeks of July. Tim will be presenting the “Truth Projects” on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. and on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. This program integrates Biblical truth with the aspirations and statements of our founding fathers who were signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. WYD=World Youth Day

We would like to invite you for a meal and message at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 500 North, three blocks east. Camie Fackrell Memorial Roping

A fundraiser to help the Burn Camp Program at the University of Utah will be held June 26 at 10 a.m. at the Grantsville Rodeo Grounds. The event is being held by the family of Camie Jo Fackrell who was killed in a plane crash near Moab on Aug. 22, 2008. Last year the Fackrell family, along with sponsors, fellow team ropers and generous donators raised $2,00 for Healing Hands for Haiti. Guide Dogs car show

A car show to benefit the Guide Dogs of America will be held Aug. 21 in Stansbury Park. Guide Dogs have been around since 1949 providing dogs to visually impaired people. Preregistration is $20 or $25 day of show. First 100 get a car show T-shirt and dash plaque. There will be 28 awards given including best rat rod and best golf cart. 5K Run/Walk for the Homeless

Tooele County Board of Realtors is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk the Homeless at Deseret Peak on June 26 at 8 a.m., registration at Maceys or day of event at 7 a.m. Cost is $15 for individual and $30 for families up to four.

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering an emergency food pantry and clothing closet to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. Master Gardener Updates

The Tooele County Master Gardeners have a number of volunteers available to give presentations on a variety of garden topics. If your organization would like to have a volunteer come and speak about gardening at a meeting, call Marianne Rutishauser, the volunteer coordinator, at 882-1485. Any Master Gardener needing volunteer hours can call Marianne for current volunteer information. Master Gardeners are reminded about collecting weeds for the next meeting on June 23 at the Extension Service building, 151 N. Main, Tooele starting at 6:30 p.m. It will be a presentation by Larry Sagers on weed identification and control. The July 28 meeting will include a field trip to the home of Phil Jones, the maker of the fabulous cement pots, yard sculptures and benches. The annual Garden Tour will be on June 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets, at $5 per person, can be purchased the day of the tour at the homes of Barbara Barlow in Tooele or Gary Fawson in Grantsville.

Diagnostic clinic

The Master Gardeners Diagnostic Clinic is held every Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. at 151 N. Main St. in the Extension Service Library. It is open to the public and will run until the end of September. Anyone having a problem with something growing on their property is welcome. If possible, bring in a small cutting or collect a sampling of what is growing which will aid in diagnosing the problem. Camp for those with disabilities

A summer day camp for people with disabilities age 12-22 is being sponsored by Girl Scouts of America. It’s open to boys and girls and will be held July 13 and 14. Alzheimer’s caregivers

A support group for Alzheimer’s caregivers is open to anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia (memory issues). LDS addiction recovery

LDS Family Services addiction recovery meetings every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the LDS chapel on 1030 S. 900 West, in the Relief Society room, Tooele. Enter on the west side of the church. The handicap entrance is on the south side of the church. This meeting addresses all addictions or character weaknesses. No children please. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.

LDS addiction family support

If you have a loved one who is struggling with addictions of any kind, find help and support Sunday evenings from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Erda Ward building at 323 E. Erda Way. Enter on the east side of the building and go into the Relief Society room. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.

LDS porn addiction program

An LDS Pornography Addiction Recovery Support group meeting will be held every Friday evening from 7:30-9 p.m., Stansbury Stake Center, 417 E. Benson Road, Stansbury Park. Enter on the southwest side of building. Separate men’s recovery (for men struggling with pornography addictions) and women’s support meetings (for women whose husbands or family members are struggling with pornography) are held at the same time. No referral needed. There is no charge to attend.

The Healing Hearts

The Healing Hearts is a free group for families who have ever lost a child, delivered a stillborn or had a miscarriage. Meet with other families that have suffered a loss. We are parents living through the grief process together. Come and share experiences, coping skills and comfort methods. Family members and close friends (support) are welcome.
