Two Stansbury wrestlers, two Grantsville wrestlers and one Tooele wrestler finished undefeated in tournaments on Saturday.

Stansbury’s Kolton Kroeger and Mason Burbidge along with Grantsville’s Drew Hart and Sam Williamson all went 5-0 at the Stansbury Stanpede. Down at the Desert Storm Tournament in St. George Tooele’s Thomas Manning won the 152 weight division with a 3-0 record.

At Stansbury, Kearns finished first as a team followed by the Stallions, Timpview, Park City, Westlake and Grantsville sixth. Ten teams participated in the competition.

The Buffaloes placed fifth as a team at the Desert Storm tourney.

With two talented wrestlers in the 189 and 215 pound classifications, the Stallions should contend for the Region 6 wrestling title this year.

At 189, Kroeger has lost only two matches all season with a 13-2 record and Mason Burbidge is undefeated on the season at 15-0 and will be a tough draw for opponents the rest of the season.

Overall, the Stallions are 11-5 and 2-1 in Region 6 matches with wins over Woods Cross and East and a nine-point loss to Olympus.

Other top wrestlers for the Cowboys in the Stansbury tournament were Tyler Gregory, Jake Campbell and Tucker Wolfley who came through with winning records. The Cowboys were unable to field six weight classifications which hurt them in team standings. Grantsville has wrestled in tournament in Evanston, Wyo. and Stansbury so far this season

Stansbury coach Jim Burton said it should be a dogfight for the region crown with Olympus, Tooele, Highland and Stansbury all having a shot at the title.

Other wrestlers competing for the Stansbury varsity team include Logan Stewart at 103, Jake Prather at 112, Kaylen Vickers at 119, Chance Shields at 125, Dave Hansen at 130, Derrick Jorgensen at 135, Toby Martinez at 140, Gus Bustillos at 145, Tyrell Osterud at 152, Matt Williams at 160 and Glen Kummer at 171.

Freshman Stewart is 14-1 on the season while Prather is an experienced senior wrestler with a 6-2 record and should be near the top this year in region matches.

Vickers is only a sophomore, but has been a strong competitor so far with a 12-4 record.

Martinez is 10-4 on the season while Kummer is 11-5 and was 3-2 at the Stampede. His two losses at the Stampede were extremely close and easily could have swung in Kummer’s favor, according to his coach.

In addition to Manning, four other wrestlers placed high at the St. George tournament. Tre Behunin finished third at 125, Zach Coffman second at 145, Mike Crane fourth at 171 and Joel Spendlove second at 215.

Next up for Tooele, Stansbury and Grantsville is the Grantsville Duals on Jan. 2.
