1965-2009

Our loving husband, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend, Larry Jr. passed away Sept. 16, 2009, at his home. He was born on Dec. 3, 1965, in Tooele, to Larry and Sherrie (Prince) Modena. He was married to Brenda Winters Modena for 23 years. He attended Tooele schools and graduated from Tooele High in 1984. He participated in high school sports. Competed in weight-lifting while in school and continued throughout his life. He received many awards for bench pressing, and took the super-heavyweight “World Title” for his division, on Dec. 13, 2008. He also set an American and Utah new record for bench pressing. Lifting 407 pounds. He worked for This Is The Place Monument, and later transferred to Utah State Parks and Recreation, where he worked for the Great Salt Lake Marina. He leaves behind his wife Brenda, his parents Larry, Sr. and June, his brother Kevin, his sisters Kim (Scott) Davis and Kelita, step-sisters Lynette (Ticky) Gordon, Lisa (Pete) Buzianis, step-brother Will Ericson. His step-children Johnnie (Jessica) Hawkins, Jennifer (Ted) Gurule, Jessica (Anthony) Galando. Special grandchildren, Cayden, Presley, Tanner, Austin, and Cameron. Cameron also competed with his grandfather in bench pressing. Cameron took a world record in his class, last year when he was only nine. Larry Jr. was very proud of Cameron’s accomplishments. He also had three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother Sherrie, grandparents Don and Maxine Prince, grandparents Vitto and Sylvia Modena, mother-in-law Emma Winters, step-son Cassidy Hawkins, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. Larry Jr. loved to fish, which his grandfather Prince took him many times. He was the happiest when he was with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephew, joking and playing with them. He helped his longtime friend Rocky coach little league football. Working out with his grandsons and teaching them how to bench press and lift weights. He loved to tease all his sisters especially when it came to the Raiders playing football. His all time favorite team. He is going to be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Following cremation there will be a graveside service held at Tooele City Cemetery on Friday, Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m.
