The economy is down, the weather is turning colder and the holidays are approaching fast. It’s a time to come to the aid of those less fortunate in our community.

Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Tooele Transcript-Bulletin Christmas Benefit Fund.

All nominations should include a thorough description of hardships faced by a family or individual, as well as an explanation of how the fund could benefit them this Christmas season.

Please send nominations by Dec. 5 to the Tooele Transcript-Bulletin Christmas Benefit Fund at P.O. Box 390, Tooele, Utah, 84074; or e-mail nominations to tbp@tooeletranscript.com with the words “Benefit Fund” in the subject line.

I appreciate all that the Christmas programs out there. I wish the deadline were a little closure to Christmas though. Someone who normaly does just fine and thinks or hopes they will have a job in time for Christmas will not be as likely to apply for this help. Then 2 weeks before 12/25, when they realize the job is not going to happen, they look into sub-for-santa and are told they are too late. Some sub-for-santa programs start taking apps in October. This means those who do not have any plans to provide their own kids Chrismas with over 2 months planned in advance get the first priority.
