THS yearbooks

I am attempting to assemble full sets of Tooele High School yearbooks from the beginning of THS through 2008. Cooking lessons

Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 11:30 a.m., at the Tooele Health Building Auditorium. Learn how to make SOS (soups and sauces) mix and Utah quick mix, two pantry staple mixes. Plan on sampling several things made from these mixes. Call USU Extension at 277-2406 by 9 a.m. on Wednesday to RSVP.

Pet adoption event

Tooele Animal Outreach will be holding a pet adoption event at Rockstar Pets, 762 N. Main St., on Saturday, Nov. 1 from noon until 5 p.m. Tooele Animal Outreach in conjunction with Rockstar Pets will have a variety of wonderful pets looking for their forever homes. Library story time

The Stansbury Park Community Library is having a special spooky story time on Tuesday, Oct. 28 from 7-9 p.m. at the Stansbury Park Clubhouse. Spook alley

West Elementary PTA and School would like to invite you to their first annual Halloween carnival. Oct. 30, 5-7:30 p.m. Come in costume and trick or treat. There’s going be food, games, and activities. Carnival tickets on sale now at school office, 451 W. 300 South, for $.25 each or five for a $1.

Copper Canyon council

The community council meeting for Copper Canyon Elementary School will be held on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. in the library. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

Excelsior Academy’s next board meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. It will take place at the Pioneer Museum, 47 E. Vine St., Tooele.

Middle Canyon flu shots

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma. All classes for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language available. Register now to graduate $35 per semester. Located at 76 S. 1000 West, call 833-1994. Adult Education classes are for students 18 and over. Tuesday and Wednesday 5-9 p.m.

GED preparation class

The Tooele Adult Education Center is offering a GED preparation class. The class will be held Wednesday’s from 6-9 p.m. Cost is $35. Call 833-1994 for additional information. Summer school, Wednesday 5-7 p.m.

English as second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. ESOL students may also come anytime the center is open for individualized study. Registration is $35 per semester. Summer school is Tuesday and Wednesday 7-9 p.m.

Free pre-school hour

Bring your child, ages 0-5 years old every Tuesday at 10 a.m. to the Tooele Family Center to enjoy the adventure of learning. Your child will experience a fun hour of stories, songs, activities, and sign language to help your child be prepared for school. Located at 66 W. Vine St., Suite #B. For information call 833-1960.

Revival

Charity

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St. For information call 882-2048.

Food bank distribution

The Utah Food Bank will have a food drop on Nov. 7, at 8 a.m. at Deseret Peak. Food will be distributed until it is gone or until 10 a.m. There are no sign-ups after 9:30 a.m. unless you are already in line. Please do not show up for food until 7 a.m. For questions call Carrie at 843-7667.

Donations needed

The Tooele Church of Christ is accepting donations for the Women’s Shelter. They need women’s socks and children’s clothing. Please help. 882-4642, 430 W. Utah Ave., Tooele.

Veteran clothing drive

Department of Workforce Services is hosting a winter clothing drive for homeless veterans. Donations will be distributed to Veterans at the annual Veteran’s stand down in November. Drop off donations at Tooele’s DWS, 305 N. Main St., Suite 100, Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call Lynn Gehring 833-7384, for more information.

Serving those in need

Volunteers are needed to help people in need on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Tooele Valley Rotary and Kiwanis clubs are organizing dinners both days at the Tooele County Senior Center. Collecting items for children

Young American Stateswoman association is conducting a donation drive to collect items for children in Guatemala. Please donate any shoes, clothing or toys that are new or that are in good condition at the Grantsville or Tooele Libraries, or at the office of Tooele Family Chiropractic, 300 S. Main #2. Donations to be in before Friday, Oct. 10 at noon.

4H mentoring

4H mentoring is looking for adult mentors. We need people who are over 18 and able to pass a background check, willing to spend one hour a week with a youth in our community, and want to make a difference in the life of a youth. Operation Christmas

Operation Christmas applications will begin Nov. 3, 2008. Applications will be taken on site at the Tooele County Support Center, 38 S. Main St., Tooele. The process will begin at 10 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. On the Saturday’s of Nov. 8 and 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grantsville FFA concert

Will present the Bar J Wranglers from Jackson Hole, Wyo., on Thursday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 22. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Hale Oil, Circle K or Liddiard Home Furnishings for $15.

THS band senior night

The Tooele High School Band is having their friends and family night/senior tribute Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. on the football field. They will be performing their field show “The Last of the Mohicans” for the last time this season. It is free to the public so please come support the band.

Saturday night dinners

Saturday night rib-eye steak and salmon dinners. Members get a free dinner in their birthday month. Come out and join us for lots of fun. Smoke free environment for members and their guest. Also come out and enjoy Monday Night Football, various finger foods available.

Murder mystery dinner

On Friday, Nov. 14, we will be holding a murder mystery dinner to raise funds for the Children’s Justice Center. Prime rib dinner will be served along with a show hosted by Hunt Mysteries. Show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 person.

Halloween party

The Aerie and Auxiliary will have a Halloween party on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, and Ron Hutchins will play and entertain. A buffet dinner will be available from 7-10 p.m., at a cost of $5 per person. A jackpot costume judging will be at 9 p.m., with first, second and third prizes given.

Friday steaks canceled

Fright night steaks have been canceled on Oct. 31, 2008, for the Halloween Party. Come up and enjoy a buffet dinner and have a great time.

Family night

Diana and Kay will host family night on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008. Pizza dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., with bingo to follow. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for kids 11-and-under. Public invited.

Ending Nicotine dependence class for youth ages 12-18 will begin Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 3:45-5:45 p.m. at the Tooele County Health Department.
