Every home game the Grantsville High School football team will be having a Friday Night Fan Fest at 5 p.m. including this Friday. There will be live music, food, games, face painting and drawings. Adult Education
Get your high school diploma this year. All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language are available. Adults learn to drive
A driver education course for adults 18 and over will begin Tuesday, Sept. 22, 6-9 p.m., at the center. The class includes 18 hours of classroom instruction and 12 hours of driving and observation. Register from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $180 (current students receive a $65 discount). Pre-registration is required.
Kindergarten Readiness Workshop
The Tooele Family Center is offering a free six-week workshop for parents and children 4 years of age and older that are entering kindergarten in the fall of 2010 to help prepare them for school. Parents will receive valuable tips and information on how to work with their child on pre-kindergarten skills and the children will enjoy a fun preschool hour. Fridays on Vine: Charley Jenkins
Charley Jenkins will close the Fridays on Vine concert series on Friday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Swimming Pool Park (55 N. 200 W.). The past year has been a real breakthrough year for Charley. He was thrilled to achieve the top 12 on NBC’s Nashville Star and perform on national television with Billy Ray Cyrus, Jewel, Jeffery Steele, and John Rich. Charley has also had the opportunity to tour with and open for some of country’s greatest acts: Montgomery Gentry, Kellie Pickler, Neal McCoy, Emerson Drive, and Daryl Worley during the past year. Benefit yard sale
A benefit yard sale for a loving mother who wants to visit dying son one last time in Missouri will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Vorwaller park. All proceeds will go to help send parents to see him. New and used items: jewelry, furniture, baby stuff and lots more.
Program assistance
The Tooele County Emergency Food and Shelter Program assistance to help Tooele County residents is in need of one rent/or mortgage payment is now open until funds are exhausted. Applications will be taken on a first come first serve basis and fund will be limited monthly to be available for the next three to four months. Each applicant will be pre-screened to determine if they qualify to receive the application. If qualifications are not met, no application will be given. The Tooele Community Resource Center is located at 38 S. Main Street.
Country store donations
Rocky Mountain Care Center requests donations for our Country Store of knick-knacks, jewelry, toiletries, etc. to be used as prizes for resident games. Also, volunteers are needed for a variety of activities to enhance the quality of life for our residents.
Food pantry
The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering an emergency food pantry and clothing closet to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. Baby foods are now available.
