What if UTA ran a special train out to Wendover on Super Bowl Weekend? The whole thing would have to be coordinated with Union Pacific and the casinos in Wendover. They could take you out there Saturday morning and bring you back late Sunday night. The proceeds from such a special event could go a long way to refurbishing the Comet cars. The Comet cars that are done and sitting in the yard now could be used for the special train because they hold more people. If you had eight cars that hold 100 people in each car, that would be eight hundred people. If you charge each person $60 round trip, that would be $48,000. The casinos might pick up the tab to rent the right of way from Union Pacific, and they might kick in $10 in coins for each person just to get all those people out there. The hotels would make money on the rooms that would be rented for the weekend. All of those people wouldn’t have to worry about driving in bad weather — they could party on the way out and sleep on the way back. That would be safer than driving on the highway as well. They might even coordinate a special concert on Saturday night for those not interested in football. Who would that be, ladies? The idea is a little out there, but it sounds like a winning proposition for all concerned.
