Tooele

Caregivers guide classes

The next class will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Tooele Senior Citizens Center located at 59 E. Vine St. The class this month is “Caring for our loved ones with mental illness.” This class will be presented by Valley mental Health. Settlement irrigation

Story and craft hour

The Tooele City Arts Council is offering community art classes. Family history seminar

A family history service day seminar on Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Instructor of the class will be C. Lynn Andersen, accredited genealogist. It will be at the meeting room at Phil’s Glass, 635 N. Main St., Tooele. Please bring donations of non-perishable foods for the food bank.

Wells Fargo blood drive

BSA haunted woods

The haunted woods will be at the Wigwam at the top of Main Street on the turned near the night crawlers sign on Oct. 24-25 from dusk until 10 p.m. Cost is $1 for children over 14 and under 14 is a can of food for the Utah Food Bank. For more information call 849-3146 or 843-1472.

Halloween carnival

Together with youth presents the 17th annual family Halloween carnival. It will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, from 1-4 p.m. at the Dow James Building, 438 W. 400 North, Tooele. There will be food games, fortune telling, and cookie decorating. The cost to attend the carnival is one can of food.

American Red Cross blood drive

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma. All classes for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language available. English as second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. ESOL students may also come anytime the center is open for individualized study. Registration is $35 per semester. Summer school is Tuesday and Wednesday 7-9 p.m.

Free pre-school hour

Bring your child, ages 0-5 years old every Tuesday at 10 a.m. to the Tooele Family Center to enjoy the adventure of learning. Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St. For information call 882-2048.

Food bank distribution

The Utah Food Bank will have a food drop on Nov. 7, at 8 a.m. at Deseret Peak. Food will be distributed until it is gone or until 10 a.m. There are no sign-ups after 9:30 a.m. unless you are already in line. Please do not show up for food until 7 a.m. For questions call Carrie at 843-7667.

Donations needed

The Tooele Church of Christ is accepting donations for the Women’s Shelter. They need women’s socks and children’s clothing. Please help. 882-4642, 430 W. Utah Ave., Tooele.

Hospice volunteers

You can play a critical role improving the quality of life for those on their “end of life” journey. Volunteers provide care to patients and families in the comfort of the patient’s home. Volunteers hold hands, bake cakes, share life stories and support caregivers. We invite you to join the Community Nursing Services hospice. Call 882-3913.

Veteran clothing drive

Department of Workforce Services is hosting a winter clothing drive for homeless veterans. Donations will be distributed to Veterans at the annual Veteran’s stand down in November. Serving those in need

Volunteers are needed to help people in need on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Tooele Valley Rotary and Kiwanis clubs are organizing dinners both days at the Tooele County Senior Center. Collecting items for children

Young American Stateswoman association is conducting a donation drive to collect items for children in Guatemala. Please donate any shoes, clothing or toys that are new or that are in good condition at the Grantsville or Tooele Libraries, or at the office of Tooele Family Chiropractic, 300 S. Main #2. Donations to be in before Friday, Oct. 10 at noon.

4H mentoring

4H mentoring is looking for adult mentors. We need people who are over 18 and able to pass a background check, willing to spend one hour a week with a youth in our community, and want to make a difference in the life of a youth. Grantsville FFA concert

Will present the Bar J Wranglers from Jackson Hole, Wyo., on Thursday, Nov. 20 and Saturday, Nov. 22. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Hale Oil, Circle K or Liddiard Home Furnishings for $15.

Oborn benefit concert

A concert on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at 7 p.m., in the THS Auditorium. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Brent Oborn family who lost their father in a tragic automobile accident just recently, and are facing very difficult financial times. We are asking for a donation of $5 per person or $15 per family.
