Tooele City misusing water

I was surprised to see the headline on the front page of the paper on July 30 (“Dunlavy urging water conservation”), not because we need to conserve, but that it was the mayor who was quoted in the article. There may be someone who waters off schedule, but the city needs to take its own advice. The mayor commented, “People are over watering more so than I’ve ever seen.” Has Mayor Dunlavy noticed how much water they are wasting at the Tooele City Cemetery? I walk with a friend at the cemetery and the water is on Monday through Friday. It appears it is on timers and comes on at different intervals, watering the complete cemetery every day. There is no one to correct the direction of the sprinklers if they go in the road. We have observed the water reaching on to Skyline Drive, stuck in one position on the pavement in the cemetery for an hour at a time, and running so long headstones are buried underwater. There is a spot on the northeast section where the water builds up so deep from wasted water that it runs over the wall and down into the nursing home property. “People need to understand it’s not a supply problem, it’s how they’re using it,” Dunlavy said. Our point exactly. Residents are advised to water two days a week during specific hours. Why then does the city water every day with no one monitoring it and water going to waste?
