Power lines will make Tooele ugly

We were horrified to learn that the Mona-to-Oquirrh transmission line project — erecting 200-foot high power lines through the Tooele foothills and mountains to carry power to Salt Lake Valley — is rapidly moving forward (“Power line corridor narrowed,” May 21). These huge, ugly lines and the roads under them will be visible to the whole valley. We will take a big step toward looking like the ugly, urban areas that so many in this county detest. The view that we now have — in all of Tooele — of our lovely mountains and valleys will be marred forever. Take a walk early in the morning soon. You could see herds of deer going up and down the mountain. Flocks of wild turkeys, quail families, sometimes elk and other wildlife traverse these hills. You will also hear the songs of the meadow lark. It is medicine for your soul. The roads to and under these lines, and the giant poles, will destroy much of their habitat. Only a few weeks ago, our California friends commented that Tooele, with its beautiful mountains, is as lovely as any spot they have been to in their world travels. We, the people of Tooele, need to fight this for many reasons. Our county leaders have failed us. There are better alternatives put forward by the BLM. It is unthinkable that our whole community has not raised a loud voice against the spoilage of mountains that some pioneers felt reminded them of the Alps.

They can bring them in over/over the desert, then by the I80 corridor to Salt lake, Please say no to them, over our pristeen mountains.

Amen to this. The power poles and lines are larger than any that even exist in the Salt Lake Valley at this point in time. This blight should not be positioned to ruin some of the most beautiful land in Tooele County.
