Grantsville soccer

The Grantsville girls dropped a hard-fought soccer game in Ogden. With three second-half goals the Tigers were able to roll past the Cowboys. Allison Story had the hat-trick for Ogden while Katie Nix added another. Grantsville however, was not held scoreless as Kendall Levine added a second half goal to make the final score 4-1.

Tooele soccer

It took more than the regulation 80 minutes for Timpview to get a goal against a stingy Tooele defense. However, Jenny Clark scored off of a corner kick in the first overtime to scorch the Buffs 1-0. The Tooele defense is improving however as the Buffaloes allowed four goals the last time they played the Thunderbirds and only one this time in overtime.

Homecoming dinner

Grantsville High School’s homecoming week is steeped in tradition. The homecoming pre-game dinner is one of those time-honored events. This year, the GHS Show Choir is sponsoring the dinner and providing the entertainment on the grassy area between the old gym and the ticket booth after the parade ends at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The meal includes Cowboy Chili, cornbread, salad, brownies and lemonade. Pre-sale tickets are $25 for a family of six or $5 per person. Call 884-9224 or 884-3117 for tickets. At the dinner it will cost you $30 per family or $6 per person. The choir is earning money for a trip to Washington D.C.

Cowboy signs

Grantsville fans can show their school spirit and let their neighbors know a Cowboy lives close by with “A GHS Cowboy Lives Here” sign. Fans can order the signs by calling 884-9224 or 884-0407 to purchase the colorful, all-weather, 19x24 inch signs for their yards. The cost is $10 and there is a limited supply.

Jazz scrimmage

The Utah Jazz will hold an open intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. at EnergySolutions Arena. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public, and tickets are not required for admission.

Fishing slow

Fishing has been slow at Grantsville and Settlement Canyon reservoirs. A fisherman who visits these waters frequently reports catching only chub at Settlement Canyon Reservoir during a trip in late September which was down from the first week in September when he caught his limit in a three hour period, and all the fish were at least 7–8 inches and one was 11 inches. His trip to Grantsville on Sept. 20 was also slow from the shore with only a few bites, but he did catch a 15–inch rainbow on his first cast with a crawdad–imitating jig fished off the bottom.

Motorcycle racing

Two-wheeled enthusiasts have one last chance to come out and enjoy some action-packed racing this weekend at Miller Motorsports Park, as the track presents its final motorcycle racing weekend of the 2008 season. The weekend will include the National Championship final for the United States Grand Prix Riders Union (USGPRU) as well as the season finales for the Honda Presents the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains road racing series and the Plaza Cycle Utah Supermoto Championship. The USGPRU provides a direct springboard for talented young American and Canadian riders to make the jump to professional racing. The USGPRU 125 Grand Prix National Championship® and 250 Grand Prix National Championship® are really each two series in one. Riders can compete for regional championships in the Eastern and Western regions, or they can compete for the National Championship. For this championship, riders tally the points earned from their home region races plus one out-of-region event. These points are carried forward to this weekend’s U.S. National Championship round. The top points-earning rider will be crowned National Champion. The USGPRU also includes the new Moriwaki MD250H Powered by Honda class, utilizing custom GP chassis with Honda CRF250X engines. This is an excellent entry-level, age-limited (12-16) spec class that has been very warmly received and hotly contested this season. Among the riders competing this weekend will be Benny Solis, a USGPRU graduate who was crowned the champion of the Red Bull U.S. Rookie Cup last weekend, and Melissa Paris, wife of 2007 AMA Formula Xtreme champion Josh Hayes, who has signed to race in the FIM Supersport World Championship in 2009.
