After Grantsville’s whooping loss to Juan Diego, the Cowboys dropped from a 58.1 ranking before the game to a 54.8 power ranking after the game.
Before the season started Grantsville was at 55.2 and a big underdog the first week against Wasatch. The Cowboys almost won the opener and Wasatch is still sitting fairly high with a 70.3 ranking even after being drubbed by Morgan 49-0 last Friday.
The rankings change each week, but it might be interesting to see how the remainder of Grantsville’s opponents currently sit.
Friday’s opponent Delta is 5.2 points better than Wasatch’s current ranking at 75.5, Carbon is at the bottom of 3A with a ranking of 36.1. Union’s rank is slightly above Grantsville at 62.2, Logan is the top 3A team with a 98.4 ranking, Bear River is 66.8, Ben Lomond 56.3, Ogden 51.3 and Morgan 78.7.
Grantsville seems to play better as the season progresses.
According to Parry’s Power Guide Tooele is a 15 point favorite over Ben Lomond. The Buffaloes sit at 71.3 compared to the Scots’ 56.3.
Tooele will host Orem on Sept. 12 and the Tigers currently have a 92.2 power ranking. Here’s how the rest of Tooele’s opponents stack up according to the Power Guide. Mountain View 79.6, Springville 66.7, Timpview 106.9 (third highest ranking of all the teams in the state), Payson 69.8, Provo 67.6 and Bountiful 89.3.

Speaking or rankings, the NFL regular season starts tonight with the Washington Redskins at the New York Giants. ESPN.com’s first week’s top 10 teams include: 1. Patriots 2. Chargers 3. Cowboys 4. Colts 5. Jaguars 6. Steelers 7. Saints 8. Giants 9. Seahawks 10. Packers.
Comment on the Patriots: “The Patriots had better hope Tom Brady stays healthy. They’ve looked lost without him. Injuries on the offensive line and question marks in the secondary will make their games more competitive this year.”
Comment on the Chargers: “The Chargers are tired of knocking on the door. This team is ready to make a Super Bowl push, and it could be a successful push if they stay healthy.”
Comment on the Cowboys: “The Cowboys’ delegation already has set up a branch office in Tampa. The only thing standing in the Cowboys’ way is winning their first playoff game since 1996.”
Coment on the Colts: All those early injury concerns got solved, and now they’re going to have to figure out life without key cog C Jeff Saturday. With all that missed practice, can the stars keep up superb September play?
Coment on the Jaguars: A lot to like, but OL play is a concern, particularly with LT Khalif Barnes underachieving. Those backs need holes and David Garrard needs time. Derrick Harvey’s initial contribution won’t be big.
