This is in response to the March 10 article in the Transcript-Bulletin, “Monthly food drops rise as economy sinks.” First, I would like to applaud Carrie Kline and the group of volunteers who give their time and energy. Also, the people at the organization who contribute time, money, food and make personal sacrifices to make programs like the Utah Food Bank and Tooele Food Bank as successful as they are. As I read the article, I was grateful that I am able to make ends meet at this time. I know there are families who truly depend on these programs to make it through each month. However, I couldn’t help notice all of the newer cars, trucks, vans and SUVs in the photo that accompanied the article. Some of the vehicles pictured sell for $65,000. I never claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but if some of these folks can make high monthly car payments, they could afford their own groceries. That would leave the resources available for those who truly need them. As a people, we all have to re-evaluate what are truly needs and what are desires. If you are seeking strangers in your community to feed you, you may want to sell your expensive car and buy a more affordable form of transportation. If you don’t understand what words like starvation, real hunger and malnutrition mean, ask the people in line behind you what truly matters when the food you took left them with nothing.

But I will say this, the food I have seen them get was not very fresh and some was starting to rot, so you had to sort through what was given to find the most edible food.
The way I figure it, is if you are willing to drive to the drop and wait an hour or more for the not so fresh food then you must really need it, or really like getting free stuff. Either way have at it.
nobody from the other counties or states are allowed to be there
remember; There for the grace of God go I.
Food prices have risen drastically since the beginning of the gas rising problem. I have to say that even a rich man is entitled to food.
Also, you cannot judge a book by its cover. If you don't have food but have a car... please go to the food bank!!!
Excellent comment, thanks for sharing.
