The store is located in north Tooele near Applebee’s and Deseret Industries, and it is owned by Bob and Anne Southwick, who also opened Redux music across the street four years ago. Anne Southwick said construction on the store’s space began in July.
“We had signed the lease for the building in May, and everything had come together so quickly after that,” she said. “Because we did so well with clothing sales over at Redux, we decided to split into two different stores and focus more on clothing with Fast Lane. We had outgrown our space for clothing at Redux and needed more room for the larger amount we wanted to carry.”
She said the name for Fast Lane Clothing came from the store’s close proximity to Miller Motorsports Park, which has drawn people in from all over the world for its events.
“We wanted a tie-in to Miller Motorsports Park, since it’s a new and exciting addition to our community that people from all over come out for,” Southwick said.
The store is set in a 1,300-square-foot building next to Rent-A-Center and features a wide variety of t-shirts, button-down shirts, jackets, tank tops, blouses, skirts, dresses, hats, handbags, purses, sunglasses, and a variety of other clothing articles and accessories for guys and girls of all ages.
“Some of the brands the store carries include Metal Militia, Sullen, Hostility, Lucky 13 and Rock Steady,” Southwick said. “We’re geared more toward the younger generation, with our fashion styles including rockabilly, punk, gothic, and extreme sports clothing, but we also have clothes for the older crowd, such as in-style bowling shirts. We also provide the kind of clothes people would wear when they’re going to dance clubs, concerts and other places like that.”
Southwick said the current hot market for clothing is what will keep them up and running, and that with a new store focused on clothing, it will be easier to provide more of what people are looking for.
“For Redux, a lot of the money went to new CDs and we couldn’t focus on buying the kinds of clothes we wanted to,” she said. “Redux will still carry more of the music-related clothing, such as the rock band T-shirts.”
With not many clothing store choices available in Tooele County, Southwick said she is happy to provide another good local option and reason to not have to go into Salt Lake City for clothes buying.
“We want to get people to support locally owned family businesses, and give them another option to shop locally,” she said. “Many people also want to shop at a mom-and-pop clothing store instead of a major corporation.”
Southwick said she will have a grand opening for Fast Lane in the near future, although no date has been scheduled yet.
