Story and craft hour

Every Monday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Tooele Family Center. Bring your children and enjoy the adventures of books. Along with the stories you will have fun creating and making crafts to go along with the stories. We are located at 66 W. Vine St., Suite B. For more information call 833-1960.

Spanish preschool hour

The Tooele Family Center is offering a free preschool hour for parents and children ages 0-5 years old. The class will be taught in Spanish for English Language Learning families every Wednesday at 10 a.m. starting Jan. 21. Kindergarten readiness workshop

The Tooele Family Center is offering a free seven-week kindergarten readiness workshop every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. The classes will begin Jan. 22. Your child must be at least 4 years of age and entering kindergarten September 2009, and not currently attending a preschool. This class will introduce concepts and skills that will help your child be prepared to enter kindergarten. A new class will begin every eight weeks. Utah Saves family carnival

Come play fun money-themed carnival games at the Utah Saves Family Finance Carnival Thursday, Jan. 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 151 N. Main. Each family will receive a gift and take-home snack. Freezin’ easy meal planning

Come learn how to prepare and freeze two weeks worth of entrees. Don’t miss this popular, fun hands-on class on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 6-9 p.m. at 151 N. Main. Old Folks Sociable

The 2009 reception committee of the Grantsville Old Folks Sociable is in the process of updating the honored guest list. Girls softball meeting

The annual Grantsville girls softball game rules meeting on Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Firefighter’s Museum at Deseret Peak. We will be verifying and discussing league rules. Dog and cat clinic

Grantsville FFA is having a dog and cat clinic on Jan. 21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Grantsville Animal Lab in Grantsville High School. The pets can get shots and licenses. Dr. Gowans is sponsoring the clinic.

Library Board meeting

A Tooele County Library Board meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 6 p.m., in the Tooele County Bookmobile Library, 429 E. Main, (Grantsville City Hall), Grantsville. Public attendance is invited.

Library bookstore closing

The Tooele Jr. High School Community Council meeting is Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the TJHS library.

THS class of 1989

Attention the THS class of 1989 we are shooting for a reunion on Aug. 8, 2009, here in Tooele. We are currently looking for members of the class of 1989, please join us for our 20th. Open enrollment

Open enrollment for the 2009-10 school year. Applications will be accepted for elementary and secondary students who are interested in enrolling in a school outside of their resident school boundary. Applications can be picked up at any school or at the Tooele County School District. The application window is now through Feb. 20.

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma. All classes for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers’ education and English as a second language available. Register now to graduate — just $35 per semester. Located at 76 S. 1000 West, call 833-1994. Adult Education classes are for students 18 and over.

English as second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7-9 p.m. ESOL students may also come anytime the center is open for individualized study. Registration is $35 per semester.

DVSAVA volunteers needed

The DVSAVA (Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy) crisis line is looking for new volunteer victim advocates. They are also looking for individuals who speak any second language and would be willing to serve as a volunteer translator. Training is provided and begins the end of January. Donations for games

The “country store” at Rocky Mountain Care-Tooele nursing home requests donations of knick-knacks, jewelry, stuffed toys, clothing, etc., to be used as prizes for games. The residents and staff appreciate the generosity of the community.

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs is welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St. For information call 882-2048.

Donations needed

The Tooele Church of Christ is accepting donations for the Women’s Shelter. They need women’s socks and children’s clothing. Please help. 882-4642, 430 W. Utah Ave., Tooele.

Serving those in need

Volunteers are needed to help people in need on Christmas. The Tooele Valley Rotary and Kiwanis clubs are organizing dinners both days at the Tooele County Senior Center. Friday Night Steaks

Corrie Anderson and family with Bob Fox cooking will host the Friday Nights Steak on Friday, Jan. 23. Steak, shrimp, halibut and chicken dinners will be served from 6-8:45 p.m. Please come out and support your Aerie and Auxiliary.

Trap shoot

The Eagle round robin trap shoot will be held on Feb. 8, 15 and 22 at the Magna Gun Club. Registration of $20 much be in by Jan. 25. Registration forms and additional information will be at the Aerie home.

Pool tournament

On Saturday, Jan. 24, there will be a pool tournament at the Eagles Lodge starting at 7:30 p.m. There is a $10 entry fee and the winner qualifies for the tournament of champions. Come out and have a fun night.

Horsemen meeting

The January 2009 meeting of the West Desert Back Country Horsemen will be held on Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Tooele County Courthouse. We will be discussing our plans for 2009, the actions from the recent state BCHU meeting, and taking the 2009 memberships. Please remember your checkbooks. AAUW

The Tooele Branch of the American Association of University Women will meet on Thursday, Jan 22, 11:30 a.m. for lunch at the Thai House. Vickie Nelson Career and Technical Specialist with the Tooele County School District will be the speaker. AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education and research. Tooele Homemakers meeting

Women’s basketball league

TEAD MWR will host a Women’s Adult Basketball League if enough interest is shown. We need a minimum of four to six teams to put a league together. We will play a round robin tournament with a double elimination league championship at the end. The cost would be $200 per team. Tooele Venture Crew

Ready for something new in 2009? Come join the Tooele Venture Crew. We are a high-adventure crew a part of Boy Scouts of America, for boys and girls ages 14-20.
