Regional tournament

The state champion Tooele 12-and-under Cal Ripken all-star team will play its first game in the Pacific Southwest Regional on July 24 in Nephi at 4:30 p.m. against Guam. Tooele, along with Utah’s second-place team Highland and tourney host Nephi, will participate in the tournament which runs July 23-29. Other teams in the eight-team tourney include all-stars from Northern California, Central California, Arizona and Nevada.

Tooele Ute Conference

Sign-ups for the Ute Football Conference will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Deseret Peak Complex north of the swimming pool. Cost is $165. Players can also sign up at utefootball.com. New players need to bring a birth certificate.

Grantsville Ute Conference

Sign-ups for Grantsville Ute Football Conference will be held Saturday at Grantsville High School from 10 a.m. until noon.

Sports Medicine Golf Classic

The third annual High School Sports Medicine Golf Classic will be held Friday at The Links at Overlake with an 8 a.m. start. All money raised from the event will go to the sports programs at Grantsville and Tooele high schools. The event is sponsored by Mountain Land Physical Therapy. Oquirrh Hills junior golf

Oquirrh Hills Golf Course is offering a wide variety of Junior Golf programs this summer for boys and girls ages 8-17. For beginner and intermediate golfers there will be two week-long clinics this summer. The cost is $40 for one session or $70 for each session. For the more advanced players there will be a Junior Golf Camp on July 31 and August 7. The cost for the Camp is $75. New this year is the Junior Golf League. The League will be held on Tuesday mornings and will begin on June 24. There is a $20 registration fee for the league, and a $5 fee for each Tuesday that you participate. All youth involved in these programs will receive a junior golf shirt and be invited to participate in the Junior Golf day on Aug. 14. Charity golf tournament

The Wal-Mart Transportation department is sponsoring a golf tournament for the Children’s Miracle Network. The event is a four person scramble with a shot gun start at 8:30 a.m. on August 8 at the Stansbury Park Golf Course. The cost is $50 per person, proceeds go to Children’s Primary Hospital. Grantsville golf

Tryouts for the Grantsville High School boys golf team will be held on August 4 at Overlake Golf Course. For any further questions call Jimmy Arellano, 224-2752.

Tooele golf

Tryouts for the Tooele High School boys golf team will be held August 4 at Overlake Golf Course. For any further questions call Fred Killpack at 884-0434 or 830-1258.

Tourney volunteers

Tom Poyner, tournament director for the 2008 Cal-Ripken Utah 12 year old state tournament held last week at Parker’s Park said several people made the tournament a success. “I would like to recognize some groups and individuals who through their hard work, dedication and volunteerism made the tournament a success. The fields at Parker’s Park were superbly groomed and maintained throughout the week-long tournament,” he said. The director wishes to thank Tooele City Mayor Pat Dunlavy, Parks Director Kathy Bell, Parks Supervisor Jeff Terry, City Parks employees Tom Wilson, Jose Romero, Bob Brown, Gary Rushton; Jensen Landscaping: Mike Jensen and Crew; Volunteers: Mark and Marcus Garcia, Billy Licciardone, Jim and Jake Dawson, Richard Rose, Mike McManaman, Sean McClatchey, Donald ‘Woody’ Woodruff, David Gonzalez, Travis Hollien. The score keepers were an essential part of the tournament success with the following volunteers: Steve and Cory Lane, Terrel and Lacie Poyner, Tami, Dave and Maveric Searle, Richard Rose and Mack, Haley Mackay, Woody and LaRay Woodruff, Michelle & Drew Sanders, Geraldine and Dennis McBeth. The snack bar was also a great asset to the success of the tournament with the following volunteers: Paul Collins, Susan Wise, Tanner, Leia, Amara and Mckensie.
