Bring more education in, not out

I am a student at the Salt Lake Community College Skills Center in Tooele. I have just heard that SLCC will no longer be able to offer these services in Tooele County. This is very disturbing to me because our choice as Tooele County residents to decide who we want educational services from is being taken away from us. Now the only choices we will have are Utah State University and the Salt Lake/Tooele Applied Technology College. This also means that the Tooele High School concurrent enrollment classes will no longer be offered by SLCC at the high school. For some students, this is the only way for them to get these credits and a head start for college. I understand that USU and SLTATC will be taking over classes in Tooele, but students should have a choice. The Skills Center has been operating for many years in Tooele and has trained and educated hundred of students, and helped them obtain employment and careers. Who is making these choices for Tooele County? Let’s bring more opportunities for education to Tooele — not take them away. I hope that our Tooele County commissioners, legislators, city leaders, and the people of Tooele will speak up and let whoever made this decision know that we are not happy that someone could do this to our community.
