I was surprised to read the front page article in the Oct. 15 edition of the Transcript-Bulletin titled “SHS neighbors tired of facing the music.” I feel very sorry for those who live close to the football field in Stansbury Park where they hear the band practicing early in the morning. I feel sorry that they have nothing but negative feelings toward a group of young people and their band leader who are so dedicated and committed they arise from their beds well before 6 a.m. to go to the school to practice for upcoming events, school spirit and community support. I feel very sorry that when they hear that first, second and third drum beat they are not thinking, “What a great group of kids. I hope when my little ones grow up they choose to be so dedicated to doing something good with their lives.” I feel sorry they choose to complain to the school, the school board and the police because the band practice disturbs their sleep. There are so many things that the youth of today can be involved in that are not positive. I feel sorry that you can’t choose to be more positive and helpful. Early morning band practice outside does not last forever. I have lived with the school football field in my back yard for 38 years. I have seen and heard many things that go on there, and I promise you that early morning band practice is one of the very best.
