After 30 years of service to the citizens of Tooele County, Marci Fields is retiring. While anxious to start new things it is with some sadness that she leaves her employment. Marci was hired by the State of Utah Assistance Payments Administration in 1977. Her job was to determine eligibility for supportive services like food stamps and Medicaid. She liked her job and worked for the grand salary of $4.15 per hour. Her first office was in the basement of the Tooele County building. Many things have changed during the ensuing 30 years. The state agency that provides supportive services changed four times and today is called the Department of Workforce Services. In 1985, Marci took on supervisor responsibilities and has worked in that position for the last 22 years. Also, in 1991, the office location changed to a few blocks further north on Main Street. Marci was recognized among her peers as an employee who knew her work and performed it well. Through her interaction with customers she has come to know many of the citizens of Tooele County very well. Though there are some plans to catch on "projects," Marci will begin exploring a career as an assistant medical examiner after her retirement. A retirement celebration will be held in her honor on Friday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the county building auditorium.
