What is really disturbing and disgusting, in my opinion, is the ignorance shown by a Transcript-Bulletin staff writer and a Tooele resident regarding an on-going problem of dumping junk on private property (“Illegal Tooele dump becoming eyesore for neighborhood,” March 11). The story was pretty one-sided and made it seem like landowners were not taking care of their property. I am a landowner on 1000 North and a former owner of the area dubbed a “trash heap.” My old, ugly trailer is not junk and holds a value of several thousand dollars. We all suffer from vandals who break windows, and dump beer cans and whatever else, all the while ignoring signs and gates. These trespassers should be prosecuted. Motor bike riders were asked to please stay off private property for safety and other obvious reasons, all to no avail. I agree property owners have the responsibility to keep their property clean, but this mess and situation requires helping hands already promised from Tooele City officials. We were always put on the back burner of important issues and priorities, but at least the former mayor met with us at the site and made an attempt to solve everything. The current mayor has the file but hasn’t called me back. And to my comrades, the other property owners of 1000 North, please pay attention since debris seems to be everywhere.
