Grantsville continued its winning tennis season with a pair of victories against top contenders in the 3A ranks last week.

On Wednesday, Grantsville traveled to Garland to dispose of the Bear River Bears 4-1. The Cowboys nearly swept the varsity matches only losing a close match at second singles.

On Thursday, the Cowboys posted another major triumph at home edging Judge Memorial, one of the top tennis teams in the state. Grantsville won the team match 3-2 including a three-set victory at No. 1 singles.

First singles player Logan Paulich got off to a slow start, but turned it on to defeat Judge's Noel Hollingsworth 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Grantsville picked up its two other team points by winning both doubles matches against the Bulldogs.

Brett Peterson and Casey Williams, at first doubles, downed Kolby Newton and Sean McCoy 7-5, 6-2. Trevor Lujan and Jared Knight, at second doubles, needed a tiebreaker in the second set, but prevailed 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).

In the match against the Bears, Paulich defeated Craig Nichols 6-3, 6-2 and George Parkinson cruised past Bryan Miller 6-4, 6-1.

The doubles teams also picked up victories with Williams and Peterson blasting Peter Beus and Michael Holmgren 6-1, 6-1 at first doubles while Lujan and Knight needed three sets to down Britten Deakin and Tyler Christensen 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Kyler Rupp posted a victory against Judge in junior varsity action at third singles. The doubles team of Dallas Parks and Austin Rowley also picked up a victory.

Grantsville only lost one match in junior varsity action against Bear River. Ben Tripp, Dallin Gomez and Rupp all won singles matches with Parks and Rowley winning at first doubles.

Grantsville plays at Ben Lomond today and faces a talented Logan team on Thursday.
