Ever since I have lived here in Pine Canyon, amongst small family farms and snuggled against the mountains, the area has been peaceful. Very little traffic, and not much noise. I’ve enjoyed having the space to raise animals and a large garden. What does bother me immensely, however, is the lack of pride many of Pine Canyon’s private land owners have in their property. As I drive the three and half miles up Pine Canyon Road from the Droubay intersection and down Blue Peak Road, my visual senses are assaulted by broken down sheds, large piles of metal scrap, boarded up houses, and disgusting amounts of trash. Having monolithic, decaying structures in the lot next to a well-groomed and maintained home can sure diminish the curb appeal. My family and I work hard to keep our land and home cared for. Perhaps not everyone has the energy, or ability, to do the same. But at least try. Call on your neighbors, church members and family to pitch in. When our horse jumped a back pasture fence and was severely injured on a large piece of scrap metal, the vet who attended to his wound commented, “Well, that’s no surprise here in Pine Canyon.” I looked around and realized with the treacherous mess in the fields and yards, I’m lucky it wasn’t one of my children that got hurt. Spring is coming, the snow is melting. Please, Pine Canyon residents. Clean up your land. Mary Goldsberry Pine Canyon |
