He grew up in South Salt Lake where he attended Granite High School, lived most of his life in Sandy and for the last couple of years, lived in Tooele. He married Cheryl Mecham and had one daughter, Lisa. They were divorced. Later he married Cathi Lockyer and had a son, Nicholas. They later divorced.

He is survived by his children, Lisa (Brian) Groneman and Nicholas Van Quill; stepson, Travis Lockyer; siblings, ValJean (Ron) Wright, Weston (Elaine) Ison, LuDean (Bill) Brown, Gaylen (Pamela) Van Quill; five grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, step siblings; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Claude (Bob) Van Quill Sr.; mother, Marian Boekweg; stepfather, Carl Boekweg; and two brothers, Gary Ison and Lynn Van Quill.

Claude had a keen sense of humor and will be missed.
