Grandfamilies classes

Grandfamilies is an advocacy, intervention and support program service for family members who are raising a relative's child. Classes in Tooele run every Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Family Center, 66 W. Vine St. until Aug. 7.

Tooele County Fair

Wanted: musicians & instrumentalists

Tooele Community Orchestra is preparing for a Summer Pops Performance on Monday, July 2. Rehearsals are at Johnsen Jr. High (Overlake) band room, Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m., June 13-28, for all string, wind, brass and percussion instruments. Directed by Carolyn Grow. Charity yard sale

There will be a yard sale in Tooele at 99 W. 1280 N. on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. In front of Wal-Mart on the north side. All proceeds go to American Cancer Society, Relay for Life.

Week of fun for kids

Come join us for a grand adventure the week of June 18 -22 from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. It will be a never-ending week of fun with exciting games and bible stories, fun crafts and rocking tunes. Children kindergarten through sixth grade are invited. We are located at 580 S. Main St., Tooele. Admission is free. Questions call us at 882-2048.

Pet adoption

Pet adoption event at Cal Ranch, on Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local pets from Grantsville and Tooele city shelters. Dogs, cats, and kittens will be available. Adoption fees will vary depending on the pet. For information call 882-2085.

Grantsville

Fourth of July charity

Grantsville City's 4th of July is going to be even more amazing than previous years. As always this is event is completely a charity event with all game and ride and carshow funds raised going to Tooele County charities. The parade will start at the Grantsville Cemetery at 11 a.m., ending at the Cherry Street park with the car show and carnival starting and live music starting at the end of the parade. We will have four live bands and more than eight kids rides with games and the counties largest fire works show at 9:30 p.m. Don't miss the counties largest event. Miss Grantsville pageant

Miss Grantsville City Scholarship Pageant will be held on June 30 at 7 p.m. at Grantsville High School. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. Admittance price is: $4 per person and $2 for senior citizens. Stansbury Park

June star parties

The Salt Lake Astronomical Society will host a public star party on Saturday, June 9 from dusk to 11 p.m. The event will feature Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. The star party will be held at the society's Stansbury Park Observatory Complex located at 15 Plaza in Stansbury Park. The SPOC star party will feature a talk on constellations from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Event is weather permitting.

Dugway

Community program

Dugway Proving Ground will host a luncheon and have a program featuring a community choir and patriotic salute at the Community Club in honor of Flag Day and the Army's 228th birthday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 14. Annual Jubilee

A Pioneer Jubilee will be held on June 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Benson Grist Mill sponsored by Tooele DUP. Free Admission. Wagon rides, quilting, pioneer demonstrations, bus tours, children's games. Western lunch and entertainment $8 (adults) $2.50 (kids). Bus tours, ($10), of E.T. City and area. Limited seating. Lake Point

Lake Point days

We will be holding our first planning meeting for Lake Point Days. We invite community members to attend and help organize this upcoming event to be held the second weekend in September. We hope to do some of the same things we held last year and build on those fun experiences. Meeting to be held, Saturday, June 9 at 5 p.m. at the Pearson Barn 7240 N. Adobe Lane in Lake Point. Aquatic Center swim dates

The 2007 swim session dates are: June 11-21 (no 9 a.m.), June 25-July 6, July 9-19, July 23-Aug. 3, Aug. 6-16. Lessons are offered at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m. Call 435-843-4035 for more info.

Philanthropy

Volunteers to lead/side-walk horses

Healing horses therapeutic riding center is beginning their riding program in May. Volunteers are needed to lead and side-walk the horses for riders with special needs. For more information please contact Kathy at 843-7774.

Gentling wild horses and burros

The Intermountain Wild Horse & Burro Advisors Learning Center in Erda needs volunteers to gentle wild horses and burros. The center is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 p.m. until dark, and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will gentle the animals and take them to BLM satellite adoptions around Utah. Healing horses for students

Students, 12 and older, break away from summer boredom. Join the Healing Horses Therapeutic Riding Center team for disabled riders. Adults are welcome too. No horse experience necessary. You'll have lots of fun and you'll make a difference. Call Kathy at 843-7774.

THS class of '87

Rose Springs summer school

Rose Springs Elementary is still accepting new registrations for summer school which will run from June 11-28, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The cost is $30. Don't miss out on this great opportunity for fun hands-on learning. Students from other schools are welcome.

Summer Craze

There will be summer adventures that include Meet the Challenge, A Pirates Life for Me, The Quest of the West, Where in the World is Our Imagination, Magical Potions and Spells, and a day of the performing arts. Times are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday and Friday, starting from June 21 through July 27 for children ages first grade and up. The cost is $20. Mt. View VBS

Come join us here at Mountain View Baptist Church as we blast off for a week of fun. All week long we are having a great vacation Bible school called "It's Out of this World." We'd like to invite all children, kindergarten through 6th grade, to join us as we boldly go where no man has gone b before with fun songs, silly skits, yummy snacks, exciting Bible stories and much more. VBS will be from June 11 to 15. Admission is free. VBS runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. located at 822 E. Main St., Suit #2 in Grantsville.

First Baptist VBS

Vacation Bible School (VBS) will be held at the First Baptist Church, 235 West Main in Grantsville, June 18-22, from 10 a.m. to noon. Classes will be for grades 1-6. Registration will be Monday, June 18 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. For more information, contact Eve, 884-3737.

7th anniversary celebration

New Life Christian Fellowship will be celebrating its seventh anniversary Sunday, June 10. We want to invite you to be a part of this exciting celebration. Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs, adults and children, are welcome. Library

Mystery story contest

Attention all teens, check out our Web site at http://tooelecity.org/tcl/library.html for the first chapter of our mystery story which began May 22. Enter your writing of the second chapter by June 7, the third chapter by June 20, and the fourth chapter no later than July 3. Our judges are ready and eager to read your chapters. Each winning chapter will be available to read on-line and in a book kept at the library. If you need help accessing our web page the library staff can help.

Children's programs

Children's programs will be the "Mad Science of Salt Lake" on June 7 at 6 p.m. Grab your ticket at the library. Then we will have "Whodunit" beginning on June 12. Figure out whom the culprit from our clues and pictures, then fill out the answer sheet to get a small prize. On June 26 at 6 p.m. will be our "Pink Panther Scavenger Hunt," see if you can locate all the objects and get a reward for your detective skills. One more fun program for kids ages 6 through 12 is the Hogle Zoo Outreach program. This program has limited seating and tickets will be requested at the door. Don't be left out!

Curious George story time

Curious George will be at the library June 8 at 1:30 p.m. for a very special story time. Don't forget children's story time every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and children's crafts each Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Check the library for any special story times or other special events that come up. Personal ancestral file class

The personal ancestral file class on match/merge will be Wednesday, June 13 at 7 p.m. at the center, 751 N. 520 East in Tooele. The hours are Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The address is 751 N. 520 East in Tooele. Free plant pest help

The Master Gardener organization is offering free plant pest help on Wednesdays from 3 to 6 p.m. throughout the growing season. Bring samples to the USU Extension office at 151 N. Main St., or call during those hours for help with gardening problems.

Adult education

Get your high school diploma this year! All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, drivers' education and English as a second language are available. Register now to graduate -- just $35 per semester. Located at 76 S. 1000 W., Can be reached at 833-1994. Adult Education classes are for students 18 and over.

Take GED

The GED test will be given on June 18 and 19, starting at 8 a.m. Please contact Andrea at 833-1994 by June 14. Pre-registration is required.

English as a second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Adult Education Learning Center, 76 S. 1000 West. ESOL students may come anytime the center is open for Individualized study with our software programs and textbooks. The book fee is $25 per semester.

Alzheimer's classes

Open to anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or related to dementia. Learn about this disease. Get and share ideas. Discuss experiences with others. Next meeting is Tuesday, June 12 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Cottage Glen Activities Center, 1892 Aaron Dr. (across from hospital), Tooele. Refreshments will be provided. Eagles new officers

Fraternal Order of Eagles Tooele Arie and Auxiliary #164 installation of officers on Saturday, June 9 at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The Aerie worthy president is James Wrathall and Auxiliary madam president is Sabrina Niles.

Caregiver guide classes

Do you care for a family member or friend who has a mental illness? The June Caregiver Guide Class will be dealing with this sometimes difficult and sensitive issue. Caregiver Guide Classes are held monthly to help you to provide hands-on training with a wide range of topics changing monthly. The meeting also provides a support system for caregivers in the community. Next class will be Tuesday, June 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tooele Senior Citizens Center, 59 E. Vine St. Refreshments will be served. N.A.R.F.E. meeting

Trunk Show

The Tooele County Quilters will be have a Trunk Show on Tuesday, June 19 at 9 a.m. at the extension service auditorium. The Trunk Show will feature Story Book Quilts by Corey Kund. Everyone is invited. Call Marilyn Housley 882-5384 for information.

Cub Scout leader roundtable

Cub Scout leader roundtable is Thursday, June 7, 7:30 p.m. at the wigwam. We will discuss the theme, Rockets Red Glare. Join us for a fun, evening of training and ideas for your pack or den. Sewing guild meeting

The monthly meeting will be on Wednesday, June 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium of the extension office. We will have a demonstration showing how to make a vest from a sweatshirt and trim it with chenille. Hands on application will be offered. Come join us for an interesting new technique. Anyone interested in sewing is invited to attend. There is no charge to attend and there are no supplies to bring. You can bring any "show and tell" you have. Castaways AA meets
