Tooele

Little Theatre classes

On Nov. 29, Maceys Little Theatre will feature Michelle Russell with a class on healthy holiday desserts. She will be serving a not-so-impossible pumpkin pie. All classes are free and start at 7 p.m.

Childcare providers

Are you a childcare provider that is in need of some support? Join us for a fun-filled evening with ideas and professional development. We meet the second Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. for training and free drawings with prizes that you can use in your family childcare business. For more info call Kathy Witt at 843-5326.

Christmas parade

The Tooele County Chamber of Commerce is making plans to welcome Santa Claus in our traditional Tooele Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at Vine Street and 200 West (City Park -- Pratt Aquatic Center) and will continue north to Utah Avenue, then east to Main Street, then south on Main Street to 100 South, then west to 50 West and end at Veterans Memorial Park. Meet Santa after the parade at the Tooele City Hall Rotunda, 90 N. Main St. If you are interested in participating in the Tooele parade, please contact the Chamber office at 882-0690.

Blood drive

A blood drive will be held on Dec. 6, from 3 to 8 p.m., at 1000 W. Utah Ave. Let's all lend a hand or arm. Remember the life you save, may be your own!

Irrigation meeting

Settlement Canyon Irrigation Company is excited to announce the implementation of water meters during the 2008 water year. All shareholders are invited to learn more about the meters by attending the annual shareholders' meeting Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the Tooele County Courthouse. Drugs and our community

Boys and Girls Club, Tooele City Police Department and Valley Mental Health would like to invite you to attend a free discussion about the effects of methamphetamine on our community held on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Tooele Youth Center, 102 N. Seventh St. Light refreshments will be provided. As sensitive information will be presented, please do not bring children. Call 843-5719 with questions.

Schools

THS Class of 1968

THS class of 1968 flip your calendars ahead and mark June 21, 2008 for our 40-year reunion. Golfers are invited to play in a special nine-hole golf tournament that morning. We'll spend the afternoon and evening near the mouth of Settlement Canyon at Legion Park reminiscing as we enjoy a picnic, pig roast and a bonfire when it gets dark. We need your help to assure we contact as many classmates as possible. We've discovered that we have no valid street addresses, phone numbers or e-mail addresses for about 60 classmates. TJHS mid-terms

TJHS mid-term reports will be sent home with students Wednesday, Dec. 5. Parents, please sign the bottom portion of the mid-term report and send it back to school with your child.

TJHS parent/teacher conferences

TJHS parent/teacher conferences will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. All parents are encouraged to attend.

GJHS parent/teacher conferences

Grantsville Junior High School parent/teacher conferences will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Expect mid-term reports to arrive in the mail on Tuesday, Dec. 11. GJHS School Community Council and Trust Lands Committee Meeting will follow at 7 p.m. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend both meetings. Please call GJHS at 884-4510 with any questions.

Library

Library coloring contest

The Tooele City Library coloring contest has begun. Pick up your coloring sheet at the library. Colored sheets must be returned no later than Dec. 12 to be eligible for the contest. Each age group will win a prize! Winners will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m., during our story time and notified by phone.

Story time

Remember children's story time every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and children's crafts each Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Check with the library for any special story times or other special events that come up. Adult Education

Get your high school diploma this year! All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, driver's education and English as a second language are available. Register now to graduate -- just $35 per semester. The center is located at 76 S. 1000 West, and can be reached at 833-1994. Adult education classes are for students 18 and over.

Take the GED

The GED test will be given on Dec. 11 and 12, starting at 8 a.m. Please contact Andrea at 833-1994 by Dec. 7. Pre-registration is required.

English as a second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. ESOL students may come anytime, the center is open for individualized study with our software programs and textbooks. Registration is $35 per semester.

Charity

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs -- adults and children -- are welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St., Tooele. For more info call 882-2048.

'Share the Warmth'

For "Share the Warmth" month in November a clothing drive has been set up with warm items such as blankets, coats, hats, gloves, socks, thermals, sleeping bags, shoes, boots, etc. Children's items will especially be in demand for the drive. Donations can be dropped off through Nov. 30, at Harmony Home Health at 1929 N. Aaron Dr. #H (across the street from Maverik), Quality Ford at 1141 N. Main St. (donations should be brought to the Ford building), Tooele City Hall at 90 N. Main St. (drop bin will be in the main lobby), and Tooele Foot and Ankle Clinic at 230 S. Blankets needed

There are over 500 homeless here in Tooele, and many of these sleep outside in the cold. Help the needy by donating a blanket at the Church of Christ, 430 W. Utah Ave. Call morning for best results at 882-4642. Will pick up.

Arts

Christmas concert

The Tooele City Arts Council is sponsoring TMinus5 on Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. at the THS auditorium. The cost for this Christmas concert is only one can of food per ticket! Cans of food can be exchanged for tickets at Tooele City Hall reception area. Get your tickets early because they will go fast.

After School Drama

After School Drama, a children's performance group, will be performing on Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. at Ken's Gymnastics in Grantsville (on North Bowery Street, behind City Hall). This is a free event for the public.

Churches

Revival

The Bible Baptist Church, 286 N. Seventh St. in Tooele, will hold Revival on Nov. 29-30 at 7 p.m. and on Dec. 2 at 11 a.m. with a pot luck lunch at noon. Specials guests will be the Benson family. Everyone is welcome. For more information please call 882-7183.

Christmas musical

Tooele Methodist Church and Dugway Post Chapel choirs will present a Christmas musical on Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. at 783 Utah Ave., Tooele. Refreshments will follow. All are welcome. For more information call 882-1349.

Groups

Kiwanis meetings

Kiwanis meets every Tuesday at noon at Leatherby's Family Creamery, 61 E. 1280 North, Tooele. Contact Marilyn Gillette at 830-5463.

'Beyond Our Grief'

Valley Mental Health's "Beyond Our Grief" group is for those who have suffered a loss in their life and are in need of support to assist them in coping. Grief can often be worse during the holidays. If you are struggling, please call us. We meet Thursdays, from 2 to 3 p.m., at 100 S. 1000 West, Tooele. Contact Evan at 843-3520 with questions.

MOMS Club

The MOMS Club of Tooele Valley is a nonprofit group and part of the International MOMS Club. Our local chapter plans monthly meetings with speakers and discussions, park play dates, special outings for moms and their children, completes local service projects, and has numerous activity groups such as monthly Moms Night Out, arts 'n crafts, book club and cooking club. Tooele Homemakers

The Tooele County Homemakers would like to invite you to their next meeting which will be held on Monday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. in the downstairs auditorium in the Tooele County Courthouse, 47 S. Main St. The Chamber Strings from Tooele High School will be performing for us and leading us in a Christmas sing-a-long. We will be having a luncheon supplied by the club. Back Country Horsemen

Recovery

Kick drug habits

LDS Family Services addiction recovery meetings are Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 1030 S. 900 West, room 118, Tooele. Enter on the north side of the chapel. The Erda meeting has been discontinued.

Castaways AA

Castaways Alcoholics Anonymous meets Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at noon at the St. Barnabas Church, 1784 N. Aaron Drive (southwestern looking church by the hospital, first left off 2000 North). Open, mixed, non-smoking, wheelchair access.

Al-Anon meeting

An evening Al-Anon meeting will be held Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Barnabas Church, 1784 N. Aaron Drive. Join us and you'll never have to feel alone again. Call Perky at 249-0054.
