Veterans' Day celebration
A Veterans' Day celebration will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Dow James building. A free breakfast will be served from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with a ceremony starting at 11 a.m. The public is invited to this honorable event.
The Big Fix
The Big Fix Discount Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic will be in your area on Nov. 12 at Wal-Mart in Tooele, and on Nov. 13, at Westgate Mortgage, 94 W. Little Theatre classes
On Nov. 6, Maceys Little Theatre will feature Jolyn Nobles with a class on making creative Pyrex dishes for yourself or as gifts. The class materials are $6.50 to $15.50 depending on materials used. All classes are free and start at 7 p.m.
Food bank
Utah Food Bank will be having a food drop on Friday, Nov. 2, at Deseret Peak. Notice of public hearing
Public notice is hereby given that the Board of Trustees of the Stansbury Service Agency shall convene a public hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Stansbury Park Clubhouse, #1 Country Club, to consider and take public comment on the proposed 2008 tentative budget.
Bench press contest
Anytime Fitness in Stansbury Park is hosting a teen bench press contest on Saturday, Nov. 10. The contest is open to Tooele County residents ages 14 to 19 years old. GJHS tutoring
GJHS teachers are offering to stay after school to help students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m., depending on parental response to a survey. Parents interested in getting extra help for their children are encouraged to fill out and return the "Extra Help For Students" survey form and return it to the office at Grantsville Junior High School. Adult Education
Get your high school diploma this year! All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, driver's education and English as a second language are available. Register now to graduate -- just $35 per semester. The center is located at 76 S. 1000 West, and can be reached at 833-1994. Adult education classes are for students 18 and over.

English as a second language
ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. ESOL students may come anytime, the center is open for individualized study with our software programs and textbooks. Registration is $35.00 per semester.

Grantsville bookmobile
The Tooele County Bookmobile Library in Grantsville will be participating in KUED's 15th Annual Reading Marathon. A kick-off party will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m. during story time at Grantsville City Hall. This year's theme is Curious George. Children may participate in KUED's Reading Marathon by picking up a registration form from the library and completing a specific amount of reading based on their age group.
Friends of the Library
We will be selling all of our hardback books for 50 cents during the months of November and December. We still need more qualified volunteers to staff the bookstore. If you can spare a few hours each month, please let us know. You can find a list of phone numbers to call to sign up at the store.

Food pantry
The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs -- adults and children -- are welcome. Turkey dinner
Community United Methodist Church, 78 E. Utah Ave., is hosting its annual turkey dinner on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. The community is welcome to come and enjoy a home cooked turkey dinner. Cost is $8 for adults, and $6 for seniors and children.

Handel's Messiah solo auditions
Solo auditions for Handel's Messiah will be on Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Stowe Recital Hall, 36 N. Main St. All interested musicians are invited to audition. Please prepare to sing a complete solo from Handel's Messiah, with accompanying recitative if applicable. An accompanist will be provided for your convenience. Grant money
Tooele City Arts Council is currently accepting grant applications for the 2008 year. Those organizations seeking funds are asked to meet the minimum qualifications. Interested applicants should complete an application, which can be found at www.tooelecity.org , and a budget outline. Guitar performance

Boy Scout Roundtable

Special Needs Scouts

New Scout leader training
Every boy deserves a trained leader. New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding and methods of Scouting and provides new leaders with a look at the resources available to them. New Leader Essentials is offered as part of Roundtable on Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. at TJHS.
Scout Leader Basic Training
In order to be considered trained, Scout leaders must attend Leader Specific (or basic) Training. Basic training for all families of Scouting, including Scout Committee, will be held Nov. 17, at 8 a.m. at the Tooele East stake building, 751 N. 520 East. Even if know what you're doing, you need to attend.
Cub Scout Leader Forum
Cub Scout and Webelos den leaders, Cubmasters, committee members and others involved in the Cub Scout program, join us for a fun filled time full of information to help you run a successful den or pack on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the TJHS chorus room. We will introduce the upcoming theme "Celebrations Around the World" while giving ideas for den and pack meetings.
