Tooele

Walk-a-Thon

Preeclampsia (toxemia) is a life-threatening disorder of pregnancy that can affect the mother and the baby. The Preeclampsia Foundation is taking steps to raise awareness and so can you. Please join us on May 10 for a two-mile walk and a one-mile fun walk at Tooele Veterans Memorial Park. 4th of July events

We are looking for local food vendors and other activities for the Fourth of July celebration. If interested in setting up a booth please sign up at Tooele City Parks and Recreation 843-2140. Also looking for live bands to perform on the July 3-4, if you would like to perform call Susan Trujillo at 882-5496.

Motorcycle ride

On May 10, there will be a motorcycle ride held in Sergeant Brandon James Thomas' honor. A $15 registration fee per person. We will be convening at Honda Suzuki of Salt Lake, 2354 S. State St. South Salt Lake, for registration around 9 a.m. and leave at 10:30 a.m. The proceeds will go into a fund for the children and widows of Utah's fallen soldiers.

Stampede days

Pet adoption

No More Homeless Pets of Utah will be hosting, "PAW IT FORWARD" adoption event from Friday, May 2 through Sunday, May 4 at the Petsmart located at 389 W. 1830 South. Tooele City 4-H

The Tooele City 4-H Garden Club will be holding a registration meeting on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Tooele City Hall, 90 N. Big fix mobile

Ribbon cutting

Please join us for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new building for the Utah State Adult Probation and Parole, located at 528 E. 2400 North, Tooele. Thursday, May 8 at noon. An open house will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony from 1-4 p.m.

Tooele homemakers

Babysitting class

Tooele Family Center is hosting a babysitting prep class for all kids ages 10-14. There is a fee of $10 for a babysitting kit. The class will be held, Saturday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m., at the Tooele Family Center, 66 W. Vine St. Please call the center at 833-1960 before Monday, May 12 to sign-up.

Settlement Canyon irrigation

Pioneer jubilee

Tooele County Chapter of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers is pleased to announce its annual Pioneer Jubilee on Saturday, June 7, 2008. Activities will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food will also be available at a minimal charge.

Fishing day

Special needs kids fishing day is Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rainbow Reservoir Deseret Chemical Depot. No licence will be required, if you do not have a fishing pole we will have one you can use. Lunch will be provided, please RSVP. For more information call 882-4767.

Grantsville

Irrigation

The irrigation water is now on. The Board has extended the two use-or-lose agricultural turns due to system issues. The two use-or-lose turns will now expire May 22, 2008. If you notice any leaks or abuse please call the Grantsville Irrigation office at 884-3451.

Stansbury Park

In memory

Stansbury Park Elementary is in the process of collecting pictures and memories to honor longtime kindergarten teacher Gail Chapman. Benson Grist Mill

Soccer club

Stansbury Soccer Club open registration for 2008-09 season begins May 12 through July 23. Registration events will be May 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Village Blvd. Soccer field. THS class of 1963

St. Marguerite's registration

St. Marguerite's Catholic School is accepting registration for pre-K through 6th grade for the 2008/2009 school year. Please call Ms. Janet, Mrs. Burden or Ms. Ann Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the school office (882-0081) for more information. Space is limited.

Spring concert

The Elementary and Jr. High bands, and the Tooele High School Concert Band, will be performing their annual spring concert on Thursday, May 1, in the THS Auditorium at 7 p.m., admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. The Booster Club will be selling cookbooks compiled by the band members at the door for $10.

Garage sale

The Tooele County School District is sponsoring their second Annual Teacher Garage Sale. Teachers will be selling their personal teaching materials that they no longer use. It will be held at Middle Canyon Elementary School on Saturday, May 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The public is welcome to come and shop.

Northlake community council

Northlake Elementary will hold a school community council meeting on May 15, at 5 p.m. in the school media center. Nominations and elections of officers will be held at this meeting. The school safety plan and safe school walking plan will be discussed. Parents are invited to attend this important meeting.

Northlake Kindergarten

Kindergarten registration packets are available at the school office for the 2008-09 school year. Please register your child for kindergarten. Bring a birth certificate and immunization record.

East Elementary kindergarten

Jumpstart kindergarten readiness. Mark your calender for Thursday, May 8 from 7-8 p.m. in the gym. You've got questions? We've got answers. Come join us to meet your principal and kindergarten teachers. If you haven't registered, you can do it Thursday. Know the requirements for entry to kindergarten. Learn some summer activities to help your kinder get ready.

THS Community Council Meeting will be held May 14, at 7 p.m. at the THS library. All interested parents, students, staff, and community are invited to attend.

Spring flowers

Spring has come to the Tooele City Library. Your job is to count a different color of flower each week. It will end on May 23, 2008. Get your counting form at the library. When done, bring the counting form to the front desk and receive a small prize. Remember the color of flower you count changes each week.

Financial seminar

Adults, attend our free, personal financial seminar of "Basics of Buying a House", presented by H & R Block. This seminar will be held May 8, 2008 at 6 p.m. at the Tooele City Library. Tickets will be available at the check out desk of the Tooele City Library. If you didn't get a ticket, show up any way.

Adult Education

Get your high school diploma this year! All classes required for a high school diploma, adult basic education, GED preparation, word processing, driver's education and English as a second language are available. Register now to graduate -- just $35 per semester. The center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 a.m. and Monday and Thursday nights from 4 to 8 p.m. The center is located at 76 S. 1000 W., and can be reached at 833-1994. Adult education classes are for students 18 and over.

GED test

The Tooele Adult Education Center is offering a GED preparation class. The class will be held every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $35. The GED test will be given on May 13 and 14, starting at 8 a.m. Please contact Andrea at 833-1994 for more information. Pre-registration is required for the test.

English as second language

ESOL conversational classes are held Monday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. ESOL students may also come anytime the center is open for individualized study. Registration is $35 per semester.

Education fair

The Tooele County School District will be hosting a Career and Technical Education Fair at the district office on May 6-8, from 4 to 8 p.m. The district is located on the Utah Industrial Depot at 92 Loadstone Way. There will be an awards ceremony Thursday, May 8 at 7 p.m.

Christian youth night

Community Christian Youth Night is being hosted for Jr. high and high school age kids on Friday, May 2, 2008, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. It is located at First Baptist Church of Tooele at 580 S. Main. Bring friends from neighborhood and school. Great time to have a fellowship.

Children's choir

The prize-winning Salt Lake Children's Choir is having a concert on May 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, on South Temple and C St. Tickets can be purchased at Day Murray Music or at door for $8 ($5 for students). for more information call (801)537-1412 or visit www.childrensing.com.

Holy Land presentation

A very special presentation of the Holy Land will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at St. Marguerite's in the parish gym. The presentation is to be given by Deacon Rick and Gaylynn Huffman on their trip to the Holy Land in 2007. The public is invited.

Singles dinner

The Tooele East Stake will be sponsoring a singles dinner the first Saturday of each month for anyone 30 years of age and over. Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. at the Pine Canyon church building.

Vacation Bible school

Charity

Food pantry

The First Baptist Church in Tooele is offering a clothing closet and emergency food pantry to help meet the needs of our community. Anyone with clothing needs - adults and children - are welcome. The food pantry is available for emergency needs. Hours of operation are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. We are located at 580 S. Main St., Tooele. For more info call 882-2048.

Charity golf tournament

The Children's Justice Center Friend's Board present their ninth annual charity golf tournament at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course, on May 30, 2008. Cost is $75 per person or $300 for a team of four. Sign up by Friday, May 23. For more information call 843-1161. All proceeds will benefit Tooele County Children's Justice Center.

Friday night steaks

Pioneers museum

Cub Scouts

The Tooele County Chapter of the Mule Deer Foundation is proud to announce the Second Annual Banquet to be held May 17. Alzheimers caregiver support

Open to anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia. Gun club

Locals singing

Local singers Randy Heaps, Quinton Peck, Spencer Peck, Nick Pond, and B.J. Salmond all sing with the Saltaires Barbershop Chorus. The Saltaires' show, is scheduled for, May 17 at Taylorsville High School, 5400 S. and Redwood Rd., a matinee performance 2 p.m. and an evening performance at 7 p.m.

Sewing Guild

The Tooele neighborhood group will meet Wednesday, May 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Extension Office. We will be making fleece mittens and hats for charity. Fleece and patterns will be provided. WDARC

The West Desert Amateur Radio Club will be holding their monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 6 at 7 p.m., in the Tooele County Building, 47 S. Main St. The meeting will be in the Emergency Management conference room downstairs. The topic this month will be six meter band; sporadic-E, ducting, and six meter homemade antennas.

Action for Autism

Join us for an informal social hour. Please note that we have a new location for our monthly meetings. Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Oquirrh Hills Early Learning Center located at 555 E. Tooele County Aging has openings in an alternative, income-based program designed to help seniors remain independent. CNAs help keep them in their homes safely, provide personal care, do house keeping and run errands. If interested please contact Jolene Shields at 882-2870 Ext. 125.

Exercise - Body instincts - meets Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at Pinnacle Therapy, 29 S. Main. Free to members. Toning and stretching and a little cardio workout.

Exercise - Hinges and Twinges - meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 and 11 a.m., at Pratt Aquatic Center. $2.50 for members, $20 for a 10-pass punch card. $3.50 for non-members. Water aerobics.

Kick drug habits

LDS Family Services addiction recovery meetings are Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 1030 S. 900 W., room 118, Tooele. Enter on the north side of the chapel. The Erda meeting has been discontinued.

Al-anon meeting
