Tooele girls golf

The girls kept with their winning ways in an 18-hole match at Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville. The Buffs shot a 433 as a team which was 24-strokes better than their closest rival Orem. Sadie Palmer led the way with an 85, while Mallory Peterson shot 111. Rounding off the final two scores were Meredith Nigh and Taylor Harris with 116 and 121 repectively. Tooele has already wrapped up the Region 7 championship and now has their sights set on a state championship.

NBA Playoffs

The Houston Rockets blasted the Utah Jazz out of the arena 95-69 Tuesday in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series. The Jazz will face Houston on Friday at 8:30 p.m. in Game 6 at EnergySolutions Arena. Utah still leads the series 3-2 and a win on Friday would advance them to the second round against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Testing for Grand Prix

Four American Le Mans Series racing teams spent the day at Miller Motorsports Park on Wednesday testing for the upcoming Utah Grand Prix on May 16-18. Andretti-Green Racing, Lowe's Fernandez Racing, PatrĂ³n Highcroft Racing and de Ferran Motorsports spent a blustery day testing Michelin tire compounds, aerodynamic and suspension settings and engine management settings in advance of the race. This year, for the first time, the series will be running the 3.048 mile outer course instead of the 4.5-mile full course, making testing critical. For de Ferran Motorsports, owned by two-time Champ Car titlist and 2003 Indianapolis 500 winner Gil de Ferran, the test was particularly important, since his brand-new team will make its series debut at Miller Motorsports Park. The team was formed earlier this year, and de Ferran has had to purchase a car, hire a team and co-driver, obtain a shop and transporter and find sponsorship. In addition to data collection, de Ferran and co-driver Simon Pagenaud spent the day learning the tricky Miller circuit and getting to know their new car. De Ferran, who hasn't raced since 2003, said that returning to action as both a team owner and driver was a lot of work, but that he was enjoying himself.

Falcons nest in SLC

Peregrine falcons are nesting again in downtown Salt Lake City. And this year, you won't have to wait until June to watch them on your computer screen. Cameras put in place by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are up and running early this year. If you log onto the Division of Wildlife Resources' Web site, you can watch the antics of the falcons, including the female taking care of the four eggs she's laid. Their nest box is on the northeast corner of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. The building is just west of State Street, between South Temple and North Temple streets.
