Vandalism on the rise   Print  E-mail Story

I am a longtime resident of Tooele. I have seen so many positive changes. We have so many more choices of where to shop and dine that I would have ever thought possible. Unfortunately, I am becoming increasingly more aware of the disadvantages of becoming a larger city. Spring used to be a season that I looked forward to. I am finding my enthusiasm and expectations to be more and more disheartening as each year passes by. Decorations are constantly being stolen or vandalized from our yard. Even our street mounted mailbox had to be replaced three times due to senseless vandalism. I even had a homemade wreath stolen off of my mother’s grave during Memorial Day weekend. How sad is it that our city has come to this? Are these changes due only to population growth or are our children or grandchildren not being raised to respect the property of others? If this type of behavior becomes acceptable, then it will continue and you may very well become their next victim. If we continue to accept and expect this type of behavior, I believe it will only set our community up for failure and make all of us victims to these crimes. I hope that we can band together and resolve this issue before it becomes irreversible. As citizens of Tooele we can make a difference. We have the power to either ignore this situation or give our city a very high potential of once again becoming the respectable, honest and peaceful community it once was.
