Born in Salina on April 26, 1941, to Robert Eugene and Leona Shaw Madsen. Her family later moved to Tooele, where she attended and graduated high school in 1959. There she met her eternal companion, Ronald Veri Kirk, and they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on January 20, 1961.

Barbara was an accomplished painter and earned many ribbons and awards for her creations. She loved to craft, sew, crochet, and beautify her home inside and out, and shared her talents with her family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband, Ron, her children, Dana (Suzanne) Kirk, Greg (Carole) Kirk, Laurie (George) Sommer, and Alicia (Raymond) White, eight grandsons and six granddaughters. She is also survived by her older brother, Bryce (Gayle) Madsen, her younger brother, Clive (Stella) Madsen and her younger sister, Shirlene (Howard) Emery and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Hyrum 6th Ward Chapel, 595 S. 200 E. in Hyrum. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and on Saturday one hour prior to services.
