The Tooele County Chamber of Commerce is holding a T-shirt design contest, asking residents for the best representation of Tooele County in the form of a logo.
All artists, no matter their age, are invited to participate and show off their interpretations. The winners will receive $100 and see their creation used as the primary design for shirts and other apparel sold to the general public.
"Some ideas that have been talked about are the different ways to spell Tooele," said Michelle Pitt, the administrative assistant to Tooele City Mayor Patrick Dunlavy and one of the organizers of the contest. "Also something about the mining history, railroad, Lake Bonneville -- things that make you think of Tooele County."
The shirts could serve as souvenirs for visitors to the county, according to Pitt.
"We are hoping the shirts will be sold at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and whoever else would like to sell them," said Pitt. "We are also looking at selling hats and postcards for now, but may expand after we see how well they sell."
The deadline for all entries is May 19. Designs must be submitted to the Tooele City Hall. For more information or any questions, please contact Michelle Pitt at 843-2104 or by e-mail at michellep@tooelecity.org.
